Referees v Everton

Really? Like the hours they spend over a marginal offside?

From what I heard, then saw, there was no stop in play waiting for VAR to decide Yay or Nay. Was instant. And since 24 hours later, pundits, media, etc, are still debating Yay or Nay, that suggests to me there was no review. With no agenda anyrate.

But its gone. The club has (again) asked for an explanation. Last time that happened, the refs said "Soz like" (The City pen). Will be interesting what they do this time.

Assuming that there is no bias, VAR should check all KMI's (pens, red cards etc etc) and contrary to popular belief, just because the game doesn't stop and the review doesn't get shown on the screen doesn't mean it didn't take place. Yes the game restarted quickly yesterday, they showed a replay then the next live thing we saw was Liverpool winning a corner. So either they didn't review it whatsoever (although it should have been, even if just once), or they were still reviewing it when the game continued, then if they think it was a penalty they will tell the ref to stop the game unless there is a promising attack happening.

So basically VAR reviews do happen all the time in the background without the game being stopped and the review being shown on the screen.

However, if there is bias then all they have to do is say it was reviewed while the game restarted and there was no clear and obvious error, it's the perfect get out for them. We'll probably never know for sure if it was reviewed or not but if they're biased against us and towards liverpool it doesn't matter if it was "reviewed" or not really.

Wowzers.

I have TS on most of the day, and pretty much every one talking head has agreed with him. Like I have said, it was borderline, hence why I dont get the lack of a review, despite one poster saying there was a 2 second one.
We were simply fleeced - reluctant to call it corrupt as I have a law degree and do not want to get myself or the site into trouble,. However it was a clear push in the back and a penalty - even spitty admitted that. However the players need to get their act together and pull us out of this mire into which they have dropped us by weeks and weeks of rubbish performances.

I coped with Shamrock Rovers being relegated in 2005, but it was a real low point. We bounced back straight away and have gone from strength to strength since then. However, I don't think I could cope with my beloved Everton going down - I really fear for our capability to recover financially and performance wise.

Souness and Carragher admitted it was a penalty - or at least if it was at the other end it would have been

No it wasn't.

Everton want answers from the Premier League's refereeing body around the failure to award them a penalty in Sunday's Merseyside derby loss to Liverpool.

It is understood that on Monday, Everton officially approached the PGMOL - the group responsible for refereeing standards in the top flight - to ask for an explanation around the incident in the 53rd minute when Joel Matip appeared to shove Anthony Gordon to the ground in the Liverpool box.

Frank Lampard's side felt aggrieved as referee Stuart Attwell waved away the protests and even more when VAR Darren England declined to intervene in the incident, as he deemed an on-field review was not necessary.

Everton feel like the technology at Anfield has not been used with due consideration in a pivotal moment of the game, as the score was still goalless at the time of the incident.

The club are not seeking an apology but more specifically an explanation as to why the VAR check was so quick, and did not even constitute a break in play.

The FA is to ask Everton manager Frank Lampard to explain his comments about referee Stuart Attwell after the club’s Premier League derby defeat by Liverpool, The Athletic understands.

Lampard was frustrated by the fact that Attwell did not award Everton a penalty during the match, which his side lost 2-0 to leave them in the relegation zone.

In the second half of the derby, Everton winger Anthony Gordon was tackled by Liverpool’s Joel Matip in the penalty area.

Attwell waved away Everton’s appeals for a spot-kick, however. The incident was also checked by the video assistant referee, Darren England.

VAR review: A lot of people may feel this should have been a penalty to Everton, and there is no doubt it wouldn't have been overturned had Attwell pointed to the spot. Which of course brings us, once again, to the high threshold in the Premier League.

We've seen many incidents like this across the season, and it's not too dissimilar to the first incident between Elanga and Tavares in the Arsenal vs. Man United game.

There isn't definitive evidence in the replays of a clear foul by Matip, even with the arm on the shoulder, which is why the VAR chose not to advise a pitchside review for a penalty. It does appear to be consistent with other such VAR decisions.

We made the refs officially apologise for a previous mistake; from that moment on, we were dead in the water. We had publicly embarrassed them, and the club would be made to pay. "Penalty??...What penalty? I didn't see anything."
