Referees v Everton

Given how frequent and blatant some of the incompetence or manipulation of the game by referees it only feels like a matter of time before a fan group acting as per the below get through. It is absolutely scandalous.

Given moments earlier they were shoulder to shoulder how did the contact between both players right foot come about ?

Did Matip initiate contact by going across Gordon. Or did Gordon initiate contact by going across Matip ?

As soon as you answer that. Then it is clear why it is not a penalty.
There’s a job going for you at Stockley Park lfc. Mr Riley will greet you with open arms.

be good if they can get his solicitors to look into clattenburgs bank accounts, the guy is clearly bent.
although i've just noticed that article is several years old so not going anywhere.

It would take a fan group IMO to gain traction. That said if you think of the gate receipts and spend at the ground on any given match day it is a significant outlay.

Hopefully the new regulator will listen and be given power to act as other bodies do. There clearly are consistent issues which have been carried into the VAR area too. It stinks.

From the premier league website

When will VAR be used in Premier League matches?

VAR is used only for "clear and obvious errors" or "serious missed incidents" in four match-changing situations: goals; penalty decisions; direct red-card incidents; and mistaken identity.

If the VAR sees an error has been made in such a situation they will intervene, regardless of how marginal the decision is.

Who asks for VAR to be used during a match?

Only the referee
, who can inform the VAR that a decision should be reviewed.

Is this not a contradiction?

If Gordon's right foot goes towards the ball then there is no contact.

His foot doesn't go towards the ball though. It goes across the defender to initiate contact.

What you're actually saying is that, because AG "initiated contact" he actually fouled Matip, the victim of such serious foul play. So penalty for Liverpool down at the other end and a red card for our Anthony then? Idiot.

I don't get the idiotic "Gordon went across him" shouts.

Well... Yeah i do, there are some weird people in this world. But what is Gordon to do, NOT try to get in a goal scoring position? If you are shoulder to shoulder and faster than the other person, you have every single right in football to move in front of them. If the defender doesn't like that and doesn't think contact her made caused the player to go down, they should be better at defending. To say it's debatable because Gordon was faster than Matip is absolutely idiotic.
The issue is that Gordon moved to the right whilst the ball was going to the left. So he isn't trying to get in a goalscoring position because you need the ball to do that. We all know what he was trying to do. That is why we have an issue with simulation and have had 6 bookings for it this season.

Six bookings out of 12 in the whole Premier League. I mean we have fans trying to defend Gordon getting booked for an outrageous dive in the first half.

The worst thing is writing to PGMOL and highlighting the issue. Given the number of times our players went to ground with no contact or minimal contact at the weekend. The last thing we should want is Referees looking at a tape of the match. I mean what will they make of Richarlison for instance heading the ball away and then going down feigning a head injury.

We are 18th in the table but in 6th place for the number of penalties received. To put that into perspective, we have scored 13 goals away from home in the League with 4 of those goals coming from the penalty spot.

Then we get the whinging about VAR. Guess which teams benefitted the most from VAR overturns last season Everton and Burnley.

We need to stop blaming the referees and look closer to home.
We have the most penalties isn't justification for not giving another when it is earned
