Referees v Everton

There's 3 of them and a room full of technicians mate.

Yet it Oliver gives it they are ok with that ?

Doesnt make any sense whatsoever.
It doesn't make sense.

But their job isn't to decide if he's right or wrong. They're deciding if he's obviously wrong. So they look at that and say well his shirt got held but he's stayed up and played the ball so is it obviously wrong not to call it? Nah. If he calls it they say well his shirt was pulled so is it obviously wrong to say it is a foul? Also no.

Dumbest thing ever.

I'm bored so I'm going through our season to highlight the poor decisions we've received

Leeds Away - we are awarded a clear penalty for a pull on DCL as he tries to score from close range. For some reason its not deemed a denial of a goalscoring opportunity and the Leeds player is not given a red card. Correctly.

Huddersfield Away - Moise Kean has a goal disallowed for offside which was clearly onside. No var to overturn it. The night becomes very difficult but we win with 10 men. This was awful but do you want VAR or not?

Villa Away - At nil nil, Gray is cynically brought down when heading through on goal. No red card is awarded. We then capitulate and lose heavily. I don't remember this and NEA to go back

Tottenham Home - We have a clear penalty awarded then inexplicably disallowed on Var. We were in the process of scoring when the penalty was initially awarded. The game ends goalless. Yes. Awful.

Brentford Away - We have a clear penalty not awarded, with no VAR check when Rondon was grappled in the box. We lose 1 nil to a penalty awarded to Brentford. You're not going to get every shirt pull.

Hull Away - We have 2 clear penalties not awarded. One of them the most obvious handball you will ever see. The game goes to extra time as a result. No VAR again right?

Newcastle Away - Shelvey is not awarded a red card for an extremely poor challenge which could easily have injured Gordon (i think it was Gordon anyway) Should have been red.

Southampton Away - We have a clear penalty not awarded on Var for handball with the game still goalless. This might be the worst one for me.

City Home - Rodri Handball. Not given. Inexplicable decision. I dont have to say anything more. Well maybe not.

Newcastle Home - Allan is given a straight red after a lengthy VAR check for a tackle that is given as a yellow 99% of the time. Bizarrely the decision is not overturned on appeal. We lose him for 3 games. Allan's was a red every day of the week for me, but the issue is the nonexistent consistency on those types of tackles.

Liverpool Away - We are not awarded a penalty after a clear foul on Gordon early in the second half, with score at Nil nil. I still think Gordon's dive is a foul too.

Brentford Home - The game turns on the decision not to award the clear foul on Richarlison, with Branthwaite sent off seconds later You're just not going to get every shirt pull

I'm very bored and do accept that this post comes across as very petty. Weve been nowhere near good enough this year - no arguments there. But this list of decisions is barely believable. And I've probably missed some other things too. I'm pretty certain we should have had a clear pen near the end of QPR game we lost. And Kenny got a really soft red card in a game too IIRC.

What an awful season it has been.
It is a pretty wild list.

VAR needs to become challenge based. And when you challenge the call the ref has to go give an honest review of the decision with on record communication of what he's thinking at the time. I think that is the best way to fix it. The system becomes part of the strategy of the game at that point. And people will still disagree with calls but you'll at least know what the process was.

They'll never do it as they like the corruption as it is.

I dont like VAR but having challenges from managers would be a big step in the right direction. It would really help a lot but would also make it a more level playing field. Thats not what VAR was introduced for so it won't happen. They want as little accountability as possible.

You can complain about VAR not rescuing us today but pre VAR the game is exactly the same and Oliver still looks a massive tit.

IMO it has to stay and just be made better.

The penalty area is not refereed the same as everywhere else. I can't believe people still trumpet that "anywhere else on the pitch" mess. Well it wasn't somewhere else on the pitch.

I think it is a foul btw. But I've been saying for years this is out of control and I'm just not able to act like we got screwed by something that happens all the time.

How about our manager gets his head out of his keister and gets rid of the crap system that allowed a guy in behind on one freaking pass? This is just a convenient way to overlook our crap.

It wasnt the system. It was an individual error.

If you're stepping up where everyone is in the opposition half and not pressing the ball enough to stop the guy from finding the one runner that's a system breakdown. Fouling the guy and getting sent off is an individual error. But all 3 of our CBs got caught and that's systemic.

Been involved in football at many levels most of my life mate.

You must be new to to this.
I've watched football for awhile now. If you touch a guy outside the box and he falls it is a foul. If he's in the box the ref asks 28 questions about the contact before giving a penalty. I know you know this too. It is always different.

Well I dont know this tbh.

If thats Salah or Mane that is given , i have no hesitation saying that.

Usually only one question. Does he play for Everton? If the answer to that is yes then play on.
