"Review the manager in December..."

BTW, has there ever been an Everton manager who's had to endure a match by match referendum on his status as Everton manager almost since he's been here?

It gets through to the media and from them to the players and must be a nightmare to deal with each week unless there's a lull in it.

The feller's been treated like a red headed step child from day one and it's absolutely shameful.

@chicoazul 's jibe about an X-Factor generation at work is 100% bang on the money - trial by a million wannabe chairmen week in week out.

Get behind the man and his team...and give them the proper credit they deserve for playing the football they're trying to do. The players and manager are a credit to this club.

Its upsetting you roberto isn't it.
Manage the club properly and the fans won't get on your back.
Keep picking flappy and they will.
Don't get so upset and deal in facts

I have to say, that grates with me. Agree completely.

I'm still pro-Martinez, albeit only just, but constant polls about being good enough after every single game? How many hoops does the guy have to jump through? We love him to bits until he loses a game? It's essentially singing when we're winning.

We ridiculed Man U for not sticking by Moyes, and laugh at LFC for their often reactionary, err, reactions to stuff but I wish some of our (possibly younger) fans would see that they're doing exactly the thing they ridicule other clubs fans for. I'm not having a go at younger fans, it's just the sad way the world has gone, I retain hope that the majority of blues can remain level headed though.

X-factor generation from @chicoazul is spot on, in society as a whole, not just football. I'm not quite as sold on Martinez as you are Dave, but I'd stick with him presently.

Unfortunately though it may not be the way we WANT it to be or the way it SHOULD be the fans who acting like that are the ones behaving logically for the world in which they actually live. Martinez is the third? (or fourth) longest serving manager in the Prem.

The owners may not be "x-factor generation" in age but they certainly behave that way and the fans are just following suit. Not sure I blame the fans really -- if they were acting this way and most clubs gave a manager three of four years then I'd say they're stupid. Sadly that isn't the world in which we live and the fans just match reality.

That said you're right they're all monsters and ruining everything ... that I don't deny.

I think the polls we had year one and even year two were stupid. Now? I agree there are too many and they are too frequent and people are over-reacting.

But I also am worried for the first time since he took charge. I may not post a poll about it or change my avatar and I'm still pro-RM ... but I'm worried. And I'm worried that I'm worried. Haha.

This really is a non debate , a curiousity to help pass the time.
The manager is absolutely secure in his job and will be given all the time he needs to build the team he wants.

The most disappointing part of the first half of the season is that results have not matched performances. If the defensive side of our game had been sorted we would possibly be top four by now.

All opinions on "In" and "Out" regarding the manager to one side, people saying "nothing much has changed" from last season makes me want to actually throw my laptop out the window.

We've improved, no doubt, but the points return/league table is what it is.

Our football is sexier to last season and notably we're passing with greater intent - Lukaku is benefiting from having some quality in the final third in Deulofeu and a confident Barkley - but, the actual output is comparative to last season. Domestically, we're marginally better vs same point last season - we're 5 points better off, and 1 place higher.

Yay! Another thread to moan about the manager.

Just what the forum needed.

Fyi ain't no way I'm reading all of that.

Indeed I do. I just wanted to express my opinion that a new thread was unnecessary.

Oh...and that the OP was incredibly long.

Yawn, you again - wading in, moaning - despite admitting to not having read the thread... Maybe just read the last line then?

Also, continue playing the ref and telling members what they can and can not post and you'll be asked to go elsewhere - moderators decide what warrant new threads.

Three major points:

1/ Context: It's halfway through a season that sees us one league win away from a position that'd have most saying it was acceptable. Halfway through a season when we have one more step to a cup final. There really should be no alarm bells ringing.

I acknowledged that, but there's definitely cause for concern.

2/ You cant say this side has regressed with a straight face.

Vs his first season? Absolutely I can.

3/ You state this is the best squad in years and you ask could another manager do better with them. Well, Martinez built this squad.

He developed it mate. Well, but it's flattering to deceive.

Your last paragraph here - that's why I'd stick.

If he sorts the defensive frailties out I'm a happy camper, we'll be more than fine with the attacking play.

If he doesn't sort it (and possibly the goalie situation too), I'm not.

No doubt mate. C- Needs to improve.

There is a lot of inevitable circular dicussion going on in relation to the Martinez subject.

Everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to one. I respect them all.

For me, there is one recurring theme:-

"We will be ok when he sorts the defence out."

As I have said elsewhere and to continue the circular discussion, he has been a manager in the PL for six and a half seasons and conceded an average of sixty goals per season.

How do those who say he needs to sort out the defence suggest he sorts it out?

Are Baines, Coleman, Jags, Stones (I don't feel we have seen enough of RFM to decide either way) bad defenders? If yes, than which of these should we be looking to replace?

If no, than what do you feel he can/will do that he hasn't done or tried to do already?

This is not designed to antagonise, I am genuinely interested to hear what people think can be done.

I cant on this phone for some reason (as ive already said loads of times) no idea why...cursor pops up above the last comment on this site.

Then move the cursor?

Anyway, all these Martinez OUT threads (which is basically all they are)

Is it? Maybe try reading it again;

Despite the increasing focus on the manager, I'm convinced that clubs like Everton get nowhere chopping and changing managers

Until then, I'm hopeful a couple of positive results could see us really kick on. Everton have failed to win consecutive league games for eight months. When that happens, and we find that consistency, we could really fly...

Keep the faith Blues. Two domestic cups are up for grabs and we're only 9 points from 4th... 5 from 5th.

100% spot on mate.

He's made a concerted effort to get the best out of Lukaku by having the ball played to him quicker and making room for Kone, and snapped up one of the signings of the summer in Deulofeu. Those decisions have resulted in a lot more goals being scored, but it's been at the cost of leaving the holding midfielders, defenders, and whatever you'd call that plank between the posts far too exposed.

He just never seems to be able to get the balance right. For a long time there were too many grafters on the pitch, leaving Lukaku isolated, and at the moment they're essentially being sent out to play like Holloway's Blackpool, only with the luxury of a couple of very talented players.

His approach is basic almost to the point of negligence; half the time it feels as though I'm watching a team with no manager. I for one will be glad to see the back of him.

The football going forward is better, although we are guilty of not taking chances and killing games off.

The defending is just as bad if not worse, I fear the opposition will score everytime they attack, hands over eyes stuff watching them at the moment.
