"Review the manager in December..."

Big month I reckon for Bobby, could swing either way imo. A couple of positive results in the league and League cup progression with evidence of the team tightening up and all will be rosy in the garden of Goodison.

Poor results against Spurs,City,Chelsea and Swansea in the league and like it or not we will be right down to about 15th-17th and if that happens he's only got himself to blame because he has the tools at his disposal to sort the issues out.

He probably will be given until the end of the season though if the worst case scenario happened and we had a rotten January then I would want him sacked and someone else brought in to at least salvage some positivity so a new manager could then ask our better performing players to stick around and give him a season.

Let's see how Roberto plays this month but no doubt in mind he will be under pressure from the fans of things don't change results wise.

That is what I fear and the pressure will be right on us. If we ended up like that very difficult to keep our star players IMO and think of the league money lost because of a poor finish.

I'm still pro-Martinez, albeit only just, but constant polls about being good enough after every single game?

Probably worth saying that the last person to create a post-match poll was adjudged to be a WUM ( I'm assuming he was a kopite like, but could be wrong ) and has been banned.

There've only been two Everton managers in an era where most people have internet access and arguably, it's only in the last few years of Moyes being manager and Martinez being boss that it's been available to people all day on the end of a smartphone. It's just the way it is and I'd hope that Martinez and the board don't take too much notice of it.

It's entirely possible that Martinez is only making minor changes to his system and getting large swings in results and may be close to the final tweak to make it all work.

But my optimism wanes.

I don't really know anyone close to the coaching regime at Finch Farm, but, as a wool, I know from people who were at Wigan when Martinez was in charge, that working on defensive duties was very low on his list of priorities. If he doesn't change that, he'll end up being a nearly man.

Can see why a constant review of the manager's position is causing some disquiet on here, but in reality this will only quieten down if and when Steve McLaren makes it known he has no interest so we may as well get used to it.

True.

Did happen from blues game by game last season though, but you raise a good point about Internet accessibility.

Agreed. What is amazing this season is that almost every match has been nearly the same (whether we have in the end won, lost or drawn). Superb passing attacking football and near zero defending acumen. Mindful of other managers (like Howard Kendall) taking a while to get it right, I am in favour of giving him longer to prove he can and is willing to tackle the defending.

But if we are still the same by December next year, I will say that's enough

When was the last time when Everton finished midtable (I don't count 6th/7th as midtable) two seasons in a row...pre-Moyes era?

It depends on the result of this season. Another season like the last one then it proves he is not up to the job. You cannot move the post all the time and find more and more excuses. Last season was Europa League and now this season is injury.?

I do agree that the current board will keep him as long as he does not relegate Everton (I don't think he will due to the quality of the players) but finishing midtable is bad enough in particular two seasons in a row. It is not a way to take this club forward.

In short, Martinez has to fix the problems in the last 19 matches and if results come eventually people will surely back him rather than moaning. Top 6/7 with a Europa League place is the requirement, for me anyway.

When he took over Whelan dropped the budget down a large % and the same each subsequent season.

Based on that alone they should have been relegated each year.

I suppose if you look at our wage bill now and then remove the albatrosses around the wage bill (which we will see in summer) mid table would be a fair position.

Well our transfer budget has increased exponentially under Martinez, and yet performance and expectation have decreased. Also, wasn't this defensive injuries excuse used in order to excuse Wigan's relegation? I think I can remember people arguing that Wigan would have been OK if their best defender had not been injured, only their best defender happened to be Alcaraz, lol.
