Ronald Koeman discussion

It looks like he's worked out the best formation to suit our best players.

Holgate and Williams look very comfortable as part of a 3 - I feel like mori is an accident waiting to happen at times and he'd be the first defender I'd replace.

Baines and Coleman are better going forward than defensively and this system gives them more freedom to attack.

Having 3 in midfield (who all move!) allows Barkley more freedom and more passing options which allows him to dictate the play more.

Having 2up top keeps someone closer to lukaku to bring into play as he struggles when he's isolated.

Things seem to be coming together

Totally agree .

What strikes me is it's almost like a new manager has been appointed 6/7 months ago to a squad that wasn't his and then taken time to look at them and see what formation suits. Then drill the team in a new system and style completely at odds with the previous failing system whilst slowly rebuilding and tinkering with the squad to build it in his image .

Genuine LOL at anyone who thinks that having a net spend of £30 or £50 million in the transfer market in the next two windows means we automatically should be competing for a place in the top 6.

As I've said before, the wage bill for the top 6 sides dwarf ours. Arsenal for example spend around £100 million a year more - that's not even including transfer fees.

It's going to take time, it's going to take enormous amounts of money, and it's going to take incredibly wise decisions by all involved for us to properly break into this top 6.
Stop talking up the 'top six' like it;s some sort of unbridgeable divide that we cant measure a manager's worth by getting in amongst. FFS the last two managers did it with ease, so why cant this one be judged on it?

Sorry, that sort of free pass isn't get stamped through.

Neither of the last two managers were able to establish us as a top 6 side. We were always in and out under Moyes, and that was before City and Spurs became stronger.

Call me an optimist but I genuinely do think we have a shot at top 5 now that koeman has sorted his side out. We've started the same 11 for 2 games on the bounce which is something I can't remember us doing at all this season.

The teams got a nice balance to it, there's a good link between the defense and attack with mirallas especially playing higher up. if gerry goes we need to bring in a player who can change a game and create a bit of magic but generally our play is good and we look strong defensively too.

If we can win the next 4 games now and see where we are at the end of February when we start playing the teams above us. Both Manchester clubs are comically inconsistent, the rs are going through their annual meltdown. Who knows.
I honestly dont think the rest of this season tells us anything meaningful. They are games without any real pressure to them other than the derby. These players can play well when they dont have to perform. We know this from experience over the past two managers that on every occasion they are called on to rise to it for a substantial win to win a trophy or secure a higher league position they shrink away from it.

You will find out what this team is all about in the first half of next season when the pressure is back on and there is a real need to push on and into the top 5/6. And that's the time we'll find out what this manager is all about.

In theory it should be more difficult now to break into that group (bar a freak season like Leicester had)

All 6 clubs above us atm have top quality managers in charge - Liverpool aint got a clown like Rodgers or Hodgson anymore, Spurs havent got flash Harry etc, United gpot Mourinho not Moyes etc. That alone makes the task a little bit harder.

But right now we are in great form and the task it to continue it as long as we can do.

last 5 games we have closed 2 on United, 5 on the rs, 1 on Chelsea, 6 on City and 3 on Arsenal.

this is during a period where without any European footy all those teams should have been on fire, if the ones involved in europe see a dip when that starts again and we can continue the current form, then who knows where we will finish.

I think that game against Palace shows how much we have improved under Koeman. The way we scored a late winner and saw out the win.Under Martinez we would have done something stupid in the remaining minutes by snatching a draw or defeat from the jaws of victory. We were the masters of dumb and stupid football under Martinez.
You mesan like at Watford and against Leicester this season under Koeman?

...precisely, so I ask again: why is this false ceiling being put in place by some to suggest we shouldn't measure a manager's worth at Everton by getting top 5/6 next season?

"We cant break into the Sensational Six". Pfffft.

Sorry, that isn't going to fly.
