Ronald Koeman discussion

It can take months for the fitness aspect to come to the full fruition. Considering how shocked Koeman was about fitness levels at the club, not to surprised there has been a dip in form and players look tired and slow starting in games. And various players will respond differently. Yesterday we seemed sharper for much longer of the match. Transition/progress, whatever you call it, no matter who Koemen signs or keeps, its hard work on the pitch that will win us things and yesterday was all about the hard work.
first rule of management, at the first sign of trouble, blame the previous management

I agree Lukaku is not a target man, and what we were doing previously wasn't working either - I'd be very happy if we went to 4-4-2
Mate he must be the only 6ft plus, 16 odd stone of pure muscle footballer who cant play the target man. What's the reason why he cant play this role? He has all the attributes to be able to play any role he wants upfront. So why doesn't he do it?

did any of them look bereft of all talent for such a long period, even under that other atrocity martinez, every single one of our technical players looks complete and utter tosh with this chubster in charge, he's a dutch gary megson, who got lucky taking over a good side well drilled at soton. gerry, barkley, kev all had good spells in the last two years, even lennon did, this guy is a fraud
This is only thing in this rambling gibberish I agree with !

I do know what you mean of course. Something isn't right at the moment. And can understand why people are a bit miffed with the new manager. He's a very different character than i'd say we've ever had before.

But he's getting time from me. Lots of time. Mainly because he's not going anywhere soon. And my gut feeling is that no manager could get much out of these players at the moment.

Imagine we got rid of him now. Right this second, as i've seen a couple of people say. What type of manager are we going to attract when we sack a manager who has us 8th (but admittedly playing pretty bad) after what 14 league games? Not that attractive a proposition I'd think.

Spot on this. Let's be bluntly honest here, much of the strategy yesterday was reminiscent of Walter Smith. I'd never seen so many "Unsworth balls". How far you blame Koeman for this or the squad he inherited will be an ongoing debate. However if we are going to play so direct it makes sense to utilise a formation that suits it. We are missing the midfield out so often do we really need to extra man in there? In the short term I'd like to pop another man forward to occupy centre-halves.

Longer term we can only hope the football improves, but short term play to your strengths.

he's got at least two more transfer windows and we all know it, unless something really does go wrong, the smug bell is winding me up at the moment though, at this point I just want to see us snap a few oppo players at least

Ha. He is smug for sure. I think I quite like it though!

I tend to agree here. There is an assumption that because we are Everton, that makes us immune to the sacking manager syndrome, as much as I think that doesn't tend to achieve anything, and wouldn't for a club in our position at the moment. I see it as very unlikely but by no means impossible.

I assume Koeman being on such a lucrative contract wouldn't walk of his own volition, not least before trying to shape the squad with his own players. If he was given false assurances as to the budget available, I think he will be very forthright in letting everyone know.

I took some hope from spells in the game yesterday, and it might turn out to be an important point saved.

Koeman leaving would be a disaster on several levels, and this is hypothetical, but another defeat yesterday coupled with a continued poor run and derby defeat, and the scrutiny from fans in particular would go up another notch entirely, and questions would be asked in the media.

Ultimately I think 1) We have a poor squad depleted of confidence and motivation 2) Whilst inhibited by the squad, Koeman needs to be doing more to get results and improve our play. 3) We'll soon get an idea of what money is available to begin rebuilding the team, and need to try and get 2 or 3 in January.
I see no improvement in the squad since he arrived. In fact the reverse is true - he's made it worse. The possibility of Koeman spending wisely in the future seems remote to me. Gueye has been a success up to this point. The other two have been erratic to say the least. Going for Sissoko was poor judgement. Hinting at Depay is also poor judgement.

You wouldn't say any of this to Ronk's face now would you ?

£6million a year for Sunday league football
It's atrocious mate.

I can't stand Mourinho these days but he captured what's going on here these days: abandonment of passing football, adoption of a long ball game. It's an appalling turn for the worse. There's nothing pragmatic about it. These players can find feet. They're not capable of a kick and run game. It's just a numb nuts strategy from a poor manager.
