Would you prefer whiff waff or table tennis?
Either way I've played it competitively for 50 years and at a high level for 10.
Ping pong is fine, just never heard of an injury like that from it. No shade from me, just surprised.

yeah, i'm a bit weird with running really as i'm not competitive at all and i keep doing really well in races. my mates in running clubs big me up and i don't really like it but in my recent races i'm come 19/700, 66/2000, 12/170 and somewhere pretty decent in the great eastern run, top 200ish i think. i'm amazed every time tbh, i'm 35 and only properly started running 5 years go or so, i wish i started earlier.
My dad was a good runner, he took it very seriously until he had to stop because of injuries and you can tell he is amazed how well I do considering I just go out and run
i just try and run 40km a week over 3 runs on my lunch breaks, two trail and one road. thats it really
Be consistent, enjoy it, take care of your body/watch out for injuries. Do that and you should keep enjoying a few more years.
Well the Moray Marathon on Sunday went off pretty dam fine! Drizzle for most of the time, only light winds, great course and organisation. After taking it easy up the hills in the first two miles I used the downhills to get back on plan by mile 4 and held that pace consistently until mile 16 , and hit my planned pace at 20 miles within a second per mile so knew I’d get my target.
Marathon’s are always hard work , but I had a smile on my face all the way around. After a delay to starting training I changed my target a few weeks ago to a faster target of sub 4 hrs 20 m, which is the Boston marathon qualifier for my age. Not that I intend to do it , but a “;BQ” is a decent target to go for. Anyway , I finished in 4hrs 15min and was 1st M70 , always a nice bonus but it’s all about the time. It was probably the hardest I’ve worked in a marathon for over 30 years, so I’m still pretty chuffed

A sub 30m already and you're in 12 months training for doing a 5k? Sounds like you'll absolutely smash this challenge. Have fun doing it. If you're on Facebook, search for Marcothon. Its an event in December where you run 5k or 25mins every day. The fitness to get from this is absurdly good. You'll easily knock minutes off your 5k time doing it.Not sure if I shared this already but a friend challenged me to get in shape for a 5k by next summer. That's really easy from an objective standpoint, but getting started is always the hardest part so I'm sharing here for some accountability (and in the future encouragement.
First effort this morning. Total time 29.26 and distance 2.48 mi. A lot more slogging (slow jogging) than I expected to be able to do at this stage, but peak HR was 182 so no doubt this was a max effort. Next few miles stones are: complete a week with minimal pain; complete an entire 30 minutes no walking; complete an entire run without spiking HR (I'd settle for ~155 with nothing prolonged above 165). Those goals are still some way off.
For context: I ran a lot when I was younger, though never "fast" by any measure. I competed in HS and college but didn't get along with my college coach so I quit, which I still regret. In 20s got back into running and ran 2 marathons, both BQ standard, and enjoyed all of that. But minor injuries (PF) and major distractions (job changes, kids) put my running days behind me. In the past ~5 years I've had meniscus (thanks, middle age) and a dislocated toe (thanks, kid) surgeries so I am a little achy and stiff as well as overweight and out of shape.
But my goal is run a 5k with my friends and have a good time doing it, so there it is. I'll be back with progress, as I make some.

Day on day off, with some x training if possible (swim, bike) always helps the conditioning.Only ~2.5 mi today, that puts me near 40 mins 5k rate for this morning's effort but I have a long way to go. I think I'd be happy. under 25 but I really just want to be able to run consistently without pain. I know if I can put in the time I will get results, no concern in that regard.
I know how you feel. I've been out since last Autumn with an ongoing hamsting/Hip/IT Band issue. I've had to check my ID just to make sure my surname wasn't Gbamin. Break your increases into smaller achievable goals spread out over time where you run 500m in 2.5mins then run two of these. Put them together to make a 5min km etc etc. Bring your body up to speed slowly. And listen to it!!!! If you're tired some days then try a slower longer run rather than the pace stuff.Only ~2.5 mi today, that puts me near 40 mins 5k rate for this morning's effort but I have a long way to go. When coming back from a period out of running I always start off with “ run/ walk/ run” for a while . My usual first run is 2 miles with 3:30 sec run/ 30 sec walk. My body always feels it , but a few days later I go again with a slightly longer distance. The walk breaks really help the muscles to recover and the heart rate to slow down . Many runners are scornful of walking in a run but it works . There’s so much much written about it by Jeff Galloway.Only ~2.5 mi today, that puts me near 40 mins 5k rate for this morning's effort but I have a long way to go.
