Running

Did my first ever half marathon 21st june..

Never ran passed 8 miles. Did 10 miles quite easy but really struggled with last 3 miles (10min miles). Total. Time 2 hours 2 min.

Its been 9 days now and i still cant run. Something feels like its gonna snap down the middle of my knee when i run. Hammerd the anti inflammatorys. And seeing physio tuesday. Ive carried on walking.

Is it just a case of resting it? I miss running and want to get back to it

That`s a good time for your first race of this distance mate.

Possibly you`ve jarred your knee and you`ve done the right thing by going to see a physio, as they`re the best people to give you a proper diagnosis / treatment.

I`m the same as you with running groups.

There always seems to be at least one ultra competitive bellend, who turns everything into a competition and forms a little click around him / her, who look down on the runners who aren`t deemed to be at their standard.

Although the people running with work will do a massive post about how fun it is, all pat themselves on their back etc. I am not competitive at all but I will do everything possible to make sure I beat all of their times, but obviously I won't let them know I have. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to as well unless there is a secret runner out there - which is a bit possible but I'd like to think they wouldn't do it with a work running t shirt on

I'd save the entrance fee, get free kit etc if I did it with work but I can't even contemplate the idea of doing it hahaha

Sad news about Josh Naylor yesterday, one of my heroes from those days when I used to do Mountain Marathons and long fell runs . An incredible athlete in his day. RIP Josh.

Saw that yesterday.

His list of achievements was mind boggling and even more so, considering he ran with no technical kit, like they have to day, no professional training or nutrition plans.

A true legend and a great fella too.

@Simo

Good luck today.

Weather is looking okay, but I’d take a waterproof, as the weather can change in minutes 👍
Hello mate, missed your message before started. Finished the 23k, brutal. Can't imagine doing that in the heat. You currently doing the 14k? Best of luck, about in Ambleside for a bit if you want a quick meet up

Well... I'd been limiting my running due to a combination of a dodgy ankle and asthma. I am now eligible to play for LFC/Jurgen Klopp as my inhaler prescription changed and my breathing and stamina is bang on. I was properly struggling after two miles and limping around to the 5k mark. Tight chest, wheezing. Absolutely sorted.

Gonna Gegenpress like made and build up to the 10k mark.

I’m with my mate, who walked it, so had to hang around for a bit until he finished and now back in Coniston.

How did you get on ?

That’s the last of the Lakeland Trails Spring / Summer series. They move further north for the Autumn series now - Keswick / Ullswater and Hellvelyn.

We saw the winners of the 100K ultra coming in and they still had enough in the tank to sprint at the end 😂

Just can't comprehend doing a 100k on that terrain, starting in the dark. Crazy lot!
Winner of the 23k was swift.

Aiming for staveley next spring now. Took nearly 5 hours to get here from south .

Ducked inside 2hr 20 i think. Was lucky really, slipped onto my a4se then body surfed a bit coming down on a boggy bit 😆.

That’s a great time, as it’s a very hard 15 miles ( as you know ! )

You’ll be in the top finishers with that time 👍

Ps - The winner of the 23K is a pro athlete, who owns his trail running company - Pennine Trails. ( he’s a really nice lad )

He usually wins every race he enters !

Cheers, i see the guy at the start line, kind of knew he'd probably win it... He didn't even have any supplies with him, a fair few didn't.. madness!
Thinking I need to move North, get some training in 😆, and to get to BMD!

how’s everyone’s running getting on?

Anyone had an experience with a cam impingement of the hip?

I’ve barely been able to run since Jan. Had an issue with my hip, and while I saw out the canicross series and hockey season, since end of March, I’ve only done 3/4 little testers/easy parkruns.

Sports injury guy suggested hip tendonitis in Jan, but nothing he suggested helped. Finally saw a physio from nhs on wed, and she thinks it’s skeletal rather than muscular and was talking surgery 😫

It may not all be doom and gloom mate.

I`ve had real problems with my left foot over the years and had some really gloomy diagnosis, which turned out to be nothing more than a hammer toe, which just required managing, rather than anything drastic.

The problem that I found, is that every different person you saw, had a slightly different view and you can end up bogged down.

As much as I hate to say this, it may be worth going private, as it`ll massively speed things up ( I appreciate how expensive it is ! )
