2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

I don't doubt he's a good coach.

I said he had a very good ( & large ) squad to push his methods.

He wouldn't be able to do that here.
If he showed he could improve performances and / or results through coaching that set of players what makes you think he couldn’t improve our performances and results?

I’m not suggesting he would have us second btw or that I even want him but an example of good coaching is evident - most good coaches can take tjose transferable skills anywhere and apply that to any group of players admittedly with varying results.

The point I was making was it’s possible to coach better results and performances out of our existing squad but some people (not saying you) think it’s nigh on impossible for our group of players to be moulded into a more effective, functioning outfit.

I think that’s the crux of a lot of the disagreement in this thread. McKenna likewise - hitting a ceiling at the moment and likely to go back down but coached a core group of the same players up through two divisions

"Nobody could do a better job with these players"

Everton 18 games this season - W3, L8, D7 - Goals for 15 - Goals against 24 = Manager - Sean Dyche
Everton 18 games last season - W8, L8, D2 - Goals for 23 - Goals against 22 = Manager - Sean Dyche

Spot on.

He had a chance to build on last season and made an appalling mess of it.

Stayed up (comfortably in the end) after the trauma of last season, some decent new players, last season at Goodison.

He can't break out of his one point, one goal a game relegation cycle.

I can't believe there's not another manager who cant do better with these players if we used a more positive style of play.

Critical now the Friedkins ignore the media narrative. The media sees us as plucky, staid emblems of a bygone era. We should know our place and accept the game has moved on without us. Our role was to preserve the local entrepreneur as owner model and be grateful for it. We were to be the soul in a soulless game - but we were to give up any pretence of competitiveness. So while they could fawn over the Sky Six and feel dirty about it, we could remind them of tradition, Englishness, and…hopelessness.

The Friedkins need to realise that the media will praise them for remaining a PL club and nothing else. Also-rans in a nice stadium for the Euros.

Sack and sell! Then hire and buy. All around them.

I blame the club for being in positions to have that “plucky” narrative cemented.

Remember the media especially has a fair number of ex Liverpool players and fans. It’s not in their personal interests to see Everton do well. So patronising and gaslighting remarks are inevitable.

It’s the clubs fault tho in my opinion, we have given every reason for new generations of the footballing world to see us more and more irrelevant and not a “big name”.

New stadium or not, the longer we remain just a club that exists in this league, the more you risk growth in the future. Why are the kids of future generations going to follow us when they have better options? It’s sad to say but you can ready see it in the city centre, stalls, merchandise, kids in the summer wearing kits.

Our new owners have some task to turn this around.

I’d say it’s 15-20th, about where we are.

Are we stronger than last year? Most teams are. Including the three that came up.

We get worse each summer, we’re circling the plughole due to recruitment mistakes and thankfully we’ve had the takeover just in time it seems. Hopefully that means we can get a couple of bodies in this window. I’ve heard otherwise though.
Well no, we're clearly better than 20th and 19th so let's nip that one in the bud right now.

We are stronger than last year. We've plugged the Onana gap with Mangala, added a striker in Broja and a far superior attacking threat in Ndiaye.

And we bizarrely blew a huge chunk of our limited summer budget on a 4th choice centre back who never gets on the pitch. We’d have been better off keeping Holgate and spending that money on someone who would actually play in the first team.

They can start by removing him tomorrow and getting a decent manager in

If we had a better striker and a proper winger we might not be thinking of a new manager. Maybe our recent managers all cling to this negative tentative crappy way of playing because we don’t have those threats. Dom has missed chances this season that could have changed results. Having pace on the right and maybe when Bournmouth etc went for the Hail Mary we would have scored 2 more on the break.

Just playing devils advocate. I agree, but don’t like assuming how Dyche or any manager would play if we had a proper balanced squad - we haven’t had for a decade.

Whilst the squad is turd, it’s never been as bad as the last few managers have made it. There are teams a dozen points clear of us that if any one of their players was linked to us we’d moan. Dyche is just another one seemingly so terrified of losing he can’t work out ways to win.

Ange seemingly has the polar opposite problem, with a squad with far more talent.
Whilst Dyche definitely has not had the resources other managers (our own managers in the past and those at other clubs) have been afforded, the ship has sailed - he needs to be sacked.

His stubbornness and lack of willingness to make changes has costed us throughout his time in charge. It's apparent that he has lost the fanbase - just look at how many threads have been created calling for his sacking or discussing replacements. Judging by his post-match comments today, he may even have lost the dressing room too.

Notts Forest are a decent example of how we could play with the right players bought in to fill different positions. Hopefully in the summer we will be able to do the necessary transfer business and finally deliver a balanced squad.

On the point of a balanced squad: you only have to look at our strikers. There are four of them and Chermiti may be the only one here following next summer. Meanwhile, losing two midfielders has left that department threadbare, causing us to rely upon the same three when we clearly need greater variation.

Are we any stronger relatively to the teams in and around us?

Yes I’d say we are better than Ipswich Leicester and saints, but they’re not as hopeless as last years three.

Onana is miles better than Mangala, Broja?! He’s crap mate, but let it play out…
N’Diaye is where we have definitely added some talent. But he’s no better than Wissa, Mbeumo, Evanilson, Cunha, Eze, Bowen types.

Most teams have several N’Diayes, our one isn’t even on some of their level.

Danjuma > Lindstrom. Extra year in a lot of old legs. Plus most teams have actually strengthened properly, I’d say we’re lucky to be on par with last years level.

Where I am at. He genuinely did very well keeping the rabble he inherited in 22/23 which was weaker than started that season aswell.

Last season was also a good effort with all the deductions. However the three promoted were probably the worst trio that's ever come up to the prem and also had that horrrible winless run in mid season which was one win in fifteen and this one now has an eerie similarity to it.

The problem with Dyche's style is it has a shell life to it quicker than more pleasing on the eye ones and we've been at that point for over two months.

Yes with all his experience he'll scrape a few more wins but they'll also be plenty more goalless draws and narrow losing defeats without scoring to come aswell.

He's in big trouble. I don't think he'll make it to February unless he beats one of Bournemouth/Villa/Spurs which feels unlikely based on the general matchups against these teams under him.
