2023/24 Sean Dyche

We played a very poor team that stopped us dead once they made 2 subs.

He could have put Braithwaite on for Gueye and pushed the fullbacks further up the pitch

Put Cannon on with Danjuma up top, constricted the game through the middle of the pitch and look to build off second balls

He could have Danjuma and Iwobi close to Cannon, again to try and isolate one of their centre backs

There’s loads of things you can “try”

I don't think that would have done anything but conserve a 1-0 defeat. There was nothing wrong with how we were set up. We moan that Dyche is a defensive minded manager yet today when we made far more chances than the opposition and those chances were throughout the whole game and not constricted to 10 minutes at the start or whatever we moan again. It's clear that people have an agenda against whoever the manager is if we lose. Dyche isn't and wasn't my first choice but to throw blame at him for todays result is daft and loses track of the real issues at the club which are the board and the lack of quality of our players in certain areas of the squad.

Bang on

I think he will always have one hand tied behind his back if Iwobi, Maupay and Keane play significant parts of the season.

I'm a big fan but if we somehow add Gnonto, Beto then if be ringing up Potter or Lopetegui to see if they fancy it.
I worry Dyche will not be able to utilise the likes of DCL, Gnonto, Beto,, Danjuma, Chermiti.

Ive quoted myself above eggs to show we both think hes set teams up well.

Not much else....poor player selections, what seem to be pre arranged subs and no tactical changes when needed.

Its almost like hes picking players to show fans he knows best -- and it almost always backfires.

He needs to learn...and fast.

….not sure we had an effective central striker in the squad, so I suppose it’s a moot point who he selected as central striker. It was probably Maupay, Cannon or Danjuma. We can argue about which one until the cows come home but the reality is none of them should be starting our first game of the season.

The club has again failed to recruit an effective central striker and because of that we failed to pick up any points. It’s not rocket science yet some already think we’ve had a good window and are defensive of Thelwell.

this really concerns me. Thelwell talks about ‘pathways’ and we started with Keane over Branthwaite. It’s a matter of time before Keane has a brain fart and costs us a goal and valuable points.
Maupay has been a disastrous signing but he gets a start over a keen youngster like Cannon or Dobbin.

Before the game a large amount of posters (and i would assume match going fans) saw certain names in the line up and were totally deflated.

Keane -- Replace with Branthwaite
Gana -- Play Garner with Onana
Maupay -- Cannon, Chermiti or new signing
Iwobi -- McNeil left side / Danjuma right
Doucoure -- Gnonto (?)

We then have players in defence and midfield who can all pass a football.

Keane, Gana, Iwobi, Doucoure are totally incapable of quick incisive forward and productive intelligent passing.

I think its black and white on a couple:

1: Is Branthwaite not fully ready to start after being with England u21s -- Garner was. So drop Keane and play Branthwaite.

2: Both Maupay and Cannon scored in the championship. Maupay cant score in the premier league...so play Cannon

3: Onana played some great balls today and linked well with Garner on the right. Hes next to Gana and behind Doucoure...neither can pass. Garner must be central with Onana.

To me these 3 are clear and obvious
1. Branthwaite didnt play for the U21s tho.
3. Garner should be right back and Patterson on the bench.

Gana was MOTM, along with Garner.

Playing Doucoure surrenders points.

Not sure anyone thinks the window has been good. It could still be good.

But playing guys out of position, proven liabilities and failures and not making changes in subs or tactics is flat out poor.

Its not all about signing a centre forward.

The point is, this has got to stop.

If DCL is not physically reliable then can we just buy new forward to replace him please? No if's or but's. Just replace him. DCL can be a bonus or someone we can sell but now we need start putting EFC first and have some strikers that can score some goals. It's not FKN rocket science!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the is club playing at? How long do we have to put up with not having a centre forward ?

They can give him all the time he wants it is irrelevant because somewhere down the line he will get injured again.

Branthwaite will hand in a transfer request before this window shuts. His development will be murdered here, he needs to get out.
This is my worry. Kevin 'pathways' Thelwell and Dyche appear to be on different pages. Dyche played Keane last season despite him costing us goals and points, yet brings him straight back in after Coady and Mina have gone. Where's Branthwaite's pathway? It should be 'Look son, we think you've got great potential. We're going to play you every week in the Premier League, alongside experiences pro's in Tarkowski and Young. You might make some mistakes, but we believe in you and we'll discuss a new improved contract with you before Christmas. You are part of the spine of the team this season.'
Instead, he's been benched having played well in his preseason games and had a brilliant season in Holland, winning a trophy and winning lots pf plaudits. What must he be thinking tonight? When Man U or Spurs come sniffing he will rightly say he wants to go. What's the incentive to stay at Everton in a relegation battle when the manager doesn't trust you over calamity Keane? Thelwell's throwaway phrases about pathways and 120 point plans need to be backed up with some actions. Now.

3. Garner should be right back and Patterson on the bench.

1: Didnt say he was. I said he was with them.

2: Garner is a central midfielder and Patterson has had his first real poor game but look at what he was doing -- the positioning -- was coming inside all the time to make a 3rd CB....could be poor tactics.

Gana was MOTM, along with Garner.

Playing Doucoure surrenders points.

Gana was not close to being effective and Garner who i love was out of position defensively multiple times...he also was ineffective alot of the first half hugging the touchline against a rapid full back.

If Doucoure is benched for Gnonto and Onana + Garner are also central we have 3 players who can drive forward and make effective passes.

Currently we have Onana with 2 who cant pass well in Doucoure and Gana...restricts the midfield.

….I think today was absolutely all about the consequence of failing to acquire a decent striker. If we had one, we win.
