2023/24 Sean Dyche

I just think people are not convinced he can improve us that much yet he is another manager we have placed on a huge salary.

….my fear is posters have fixed views and will not deflect from that. There are Dyche stereotypes, remember this time last season voices saying Keane was a favourite and would never be dropped for Branthwaite. How did that work out?

You should give credit where credit is due and regardless of your opinion of Dyche I find it strange he’s not praised by so many for last season. I’ll admit I wasn’t in favour of his appointment but he won me over. It’s not to say I won’t be critical if we don’t at least do as well this time around.

We all want the same outcome.

He's a manager that will keep us up. I completely concede that point. He kept us up the last two seasons and will most likely do so again this year. However, there is nothing in his CV, other than the one European qualification season (which he did whilst also still only scoring just over a goal a game), that suggests he can do more. If survival is the sum total of our ambitions, and for some it may be, then fair enough, Sean Dyche is your man. Suggesting he is capable of more is based on hopes and dreams not real evidence. He is a low block, safety first manager. Nothing in his career or during his time with us has suggested anything different. He's very ordinary.

….i think that’s fair. I actually think he could improve us with better quality but i understand you’re not alone in being doubtful. It’s the unknown.

Equally as unknown as when I was told that preseason will show how different things will be now that we have no deduction looming.

Now it's moved to "during the season" as "preseason doesn't matter".

Really, can't wait for around January when it's back to being the players fault so we can make up a new excuse here.

We all just want the best for the club. We just don't all agree on what that is! That's ok, it's only an internet forum. I'm sure [almost] all of us would get on chatting about Everton over a pint, or a rum in your case.

Which is fair enough.
We have differing expectations.
I expect a football side to attempt football not to restrict it.
I expect all sporting endeavour to aspire to be the best.
Sitting down for two hours watching the football equivalent of paint drying is not only tedious it is soul destroying,
And I’m coming to the realisation that there may actually be better ways to spend my money and precious leisure time.
Has to improve this season.

I haven't been in a long long time mate - a good few years before i emigrated. Lived through the Walter Smith, Walker days at the old lady though, and Dyche feels like pep in comparison 😂

But I get your point well enough.

Because your entire post is a sarcastic dig. That’s why you said it’s good to cherry pick information. In a sarcastic manner. It’s the sarcasm which makes it ironic because you literally do this all the time as your main way of arguing.

Sounds a bit like you and Thelwell

Sounds a bit like you and Thelwell

….i thought somebody might post that but I’ve been quite complimentary of him this window.

When others were critical of buying another CB, I posted to @Zatara today that the DoF has shown a common sense transition strategy in acquiring O’Brien. I’ve also mentioned a few times how impressed I’ve been with a number of vague, innovative links we’ve had. I wouldn’t be surprised if he brings in a RB.

I think Chermiti will be a big gauge of his ability to unearth a really good one. I have my doubts but if he proves to be the real deal this season I won’t baulk from giving Thelwell full credit.

The difficulty I have always had with Thelwell (or any DoF we have had) is that we simply do not know how effective he has been simply because of the interference of BK and FM and the generally publicised sh1tsh0w that was this football club so to that end, he may be doing as well as we can expect, better or he may not be doing so well.

If we are to take what he has done so far, we have to (imo) cautiously regard what is he has done with some degree of hope but I don’t think we will truly know how effective he is for a year or two (which we may not see if the his rumoured contract expiry is to be believed).

Exactly this
There are certain things about him that will not change
I fully expect a slow start due to one too many gaffer days but in the long run it will likely keep us up, and he is comfortable with that. It's all he's known in the PL
That is not a manager that wants to fight for every point, and isn't looking too far up the table
We're in a weird place where his pragmatic and in these days admittedly beneficial realism won't ever have us reaching for greater heights

I corrected Eggs statement, it remains hyperbole.

I notice you're still refusing to answer my point. Which is odd since you keep calling me out for the same thing. Hypocrite.

So it remains you’ve found one example of hyperbole from months ago that you still haven’t quoted correctly. This is hardly the Dyche love in you’re desperate to portray.

You’ve said I post day in and day out all the time on this thread. I’ve just checked the post history on this thread and you have 15 pages worth to my 18. So if I’m posting here every day (according to you), then you’re obviously in a very similar boat. Seeing as you only do stand alone posts and wouldn’t be responding to anyone then this is quite an effort. Hypocrite indeed.

Man, you just can't accept that I don't like Dyche and that you think he's the bee's knees. It's weird, people disagree with you on stuff, get over it. You're obsessed.

Edit: P.S. you still, unbelievably, haven't addressed my point. It's as if you can't do it.
