2023/24 Sean Dyche

Dyche had a massive opportunity tonight and we stuck playing hoofball for 90+ minutes and it didn`t work, unfortunately that is the limitations of working with a manager like Dyche. We won`t ever win anything with Dyche, he isn`t capable of winning trophies, he might get us to the verge of Europe maybe but I think that is his limit.

Fulham were there for the taking and he got the style of play completely wrong, the CBs of Fulham dealt so easily with the long balls.

Absolute bull crap this.

Thought he made subs at the right time, though I think Chermiti was due to come on and would have been a fresh pair of legs. Gueye was absolutely cabbages and would have been better bringing Metcalfe on just to keep the shape last 10 minutes.

I'm looking forward to hearing if Onana was selected as 5th penalty taker because he was slotting pens in that style all week though.

Shocking decision making from management and player, especially when you see Tarkowski and Garner slot with conviction
Hindsight I know but maybe he should have had the conviction to bring Chermiti on instead of getting him to sit back down once Beto scored.

I seem to remember he scored a penalty for the U21's to win a game in the last minute of a Papa John's trophy earlier this year so would have been handy in the shootout.

I don't think we played massively differently to recent games. We played a lot of long balls in those wins also.

Difference was too many poor games on the ball, which can happen, and one very poor game on and off it from Gana (which can also happen, but I personally think he just isn't good enough anymore). Tired and sloppy rather than poor tactics. We are ultimately a pretty average squad that's just won 4 on the bounce without conceding and all in about 2 weeks. Pretty standard that we would have an off game

Now whether his tactics are for you whether winning or losing, that's a different argument and not one I'm bothered about so long as we stay in the league and get into the new stadium

And yet Sean Dyche must have been saying to himself as Amadou Onana stepped up to put us into the League Cup semi-final that his tactics had borne fruit once again...

My thoughts would be if Keane plays or even Godfrey we have to play 3 at the back, the defence can't scramble as well without its settled unit with Keane in a four and we need to after we commit men forward quickly. I also think Garner is wasted at the front of a midfeild three, he absolutely worked his socks off but we retain the ball far better when he and Onana are deepr as a two. If Doucoure is out play Harrison or Danjuma off the striker, Harrison has show he can manage the workload in that position. I felt taking Gana off would have been the smart move and having a more natural player in Danjuma off the striker or even going two up top, certainly better than putting McNeil on the right where he looks unhappy.

That being said we still should have won the game, pretty gutted as I would dearly love to win a cup. Lot of divvies in the crowd tonight, saw two fights nearly breaking out with self entitled chodes who think the correct response to any error is to abuse lads in the worst language.

Felt like the subs were more rest-related than tactical or performance related.

Yes the Beto one paid off but I think it’s made 15 minutes later if this was a league game.

Worrying to me is for the first time that I’ve seen, there were 5-6 players visibly gassed around the 85 minute mark.

Some of these guys need rest, and it isn’t coming.

Fulham were there for the taking IMO, they didn`t play well and Everton didn`t play well, I don`t understand why we ditched playing football like in the last 4 games to hoofing it more which worked once in 90+ minutes.

Clearly Fulham are a better side, they have beaten us 3 times at Goodison this year, to suggest anything else would be wrong... when was the last time we actually beat them anywhere? Maco Silva will be laughing his head off tonight, he has conquered us yet again!

It's not, but we are going to have to put some faith in the likes of Beto and Danjuma over the coming weeks. Dyche clearly doesn't like the latter but needs must.
