Sheedy on Moyes

A) Moyes wouldn't give the academy a chance
B) The academy wasn't producing the players good enough

I'm more inclined to side with B but whatever the answer, it's certainly not 100% A - evidenced by no 'released' academy player doing anything significant elsewhere. I mean, look at the likes of John Irving, local lad - right back, reserve player of the year two times running, Captain of the reserves... Where is he now? I watched him often at Bala Town FC, he's in Australia or New Zealand now - he just wasn't good enough. So Moyes bought Seamus Coleman...
Absolutely - but then so does the academy staff ;)

And who ultimately is responsible for the Academy staff? The Manager! The buck always stops with the manager. If the academy aren't producing enough players then the manager still has to take responsibility. That is why one of the best things Martinez has done is ensured all the age groups are working under the same footballing philosophy using Dennis Lawrence as the First Team Development Coach to liase between all levels; ensuring continuity throughout.

The managers' job is not simply to identify the best players and determine whether they should play in the first team; it is also to create an environment in which talent itself can be developed and nurtured so that it can come through. If there is a lack of players coming through or not being given a chance that ultimately is an indictment of failure on behalf of the manager. I think a good way to make the comparison is to see how many youth players are brought through after Moyes (under Martinez) over the next few years. That should give a good indication of the impact Moyes had on the youth setup as a whole. I have no doubt in my mind that we will be seeing more Everton youth players breaking into the first team under Martinez than was ever seen under Moyes.

Hang on a minute, you are complaining on another thread that if you are to post things, via twitter or the net, the least you can do is man up and use your name.

Make your mind up.

If you say something under your own name that doesn't give you carte blanche to say whatever you like, it's just better than doing it from behind a pseudonym. It's not that hard :)

for the first time since he left I actually pity moyes

On £5M a year, with about £20M compo due to him if he is sacked, I can't say I feel the same.

He treated this Club with contempt in everything he did from when he had his cosy chat with Fergie to agree the succession through to his condescending comments when he found he couldn't just snap his fingers for Fell and Baines to scuttle over to him.

I must be one of very few toffee's who doesn't really hold any grudges for the way he left, how he stayed in charge till season end etc...

I do hold grudges for the comments once he left, and how he thought he could just take our players and we should just let them go!!

Don't know if its already been said in this thread but if the man would rather play Phil Neville in midfield then Ross Barkley, only last season this too says it all really.

They play different positions though. Thats like saying he picked Neville ahead of Mirallas or Naismith. Can either of them play holding mid? No, neither can Barkley. We've played two holdimg mids all season and Barkley hasnt once featured in those two deep lying spots.

This article is a load of garbage. Rooney, Osman, Rodwell, Barkley all England internationals and first team players under Moyes. Vaughan Anichebe, Baxter, McAleny, Wallace, Forshaw, all given their chances. Coleman and Gosling although bought also were promoted from the youth team. The records for youngest players, scorers in the prem and europe were all broken under Moyes. I struggle to think of another manager who gave youth this much of a chance at a top 6 club.

How many have been good enough? Theyre hardly knocking Robertos first team door down are they? Three long term injuries and not one youth player has made the first team. Legend as he is, maybe if Sheedy had developed some better kids Moyes might have picked them.

Maybe he just really was that unbearable. It doesn't seem anywhere near justified from the information we have.

I doubt he'd have been able to create such a fantastically renowned team spirit if he was half as awful as some people want to make out. The loyalty shown from so many different characters he's managed over the years would suggest he's not the tyrant that's being portrayed

Think its people outside of the first team that had offence with him, he didnt engage well with the people that worked through out the club lower down the food chain
