Should Thelwell be sacked

Do we believe his 120 point plan

  • Binned immediately

  • I have faith in the plan

I really don't know. I'm more talking about how we brought in Walsh and Koeman at about the same time so Walsh didn't pick him, then Brands was reached around for Carlo and Rafael folllwed by Frank being appointed before Thelwell. I think Silva was mostly Moshiri driven too? Wasn't it done before Brands took proper charge?

We've never actually done the DOF system right and believe it won't work.
Yeah it's all been Moshiri driven, but now he is absent I'm not sure going forward.

Silva, wasn't that the time Moshiri rung up Jim White, I can't remember, but it caused us a lot of problems and wasted a lot of money jncluding the Watford payoff

Signing proven premier league failures is unacceptable though

Anyone who watched Burnley knew the lad was rubbish
Still if you believe in a longer term building of a recruitment system you have to allow that to take place. You have to let the DOF do his job which is supposed to have a long term viewpoint. It is too early to say he can't do it. Firing him now ensures long term issues.

The stars are aligning for Wee dour Davie to come back on his white charger. You and Bill can celebrate that one alone.
You mean the Davy who everyone threw a hissey fit over thinking the chairman was going to bring him back and then Rafael turned up at Farhads request?

either way, with the lack of funds i don't think thelwell can be blamed 100%. i [Poor language removed] hate moshiri, but let's face it - the war forced our shadow owner's money to dry up

we never should've gotten involved to start with

But he knows the budget, what's the point of him identifying a 60m player when he has 20m. Where is his knowledge of a Macallister for 10m

We needed a Richarlison replacement and he signed two flops with years of PL experience to go off. These weren't punts on potential etc. These were panic buys.

And for that reason, he is not capable of being in charge of our recruitment.

I don't trust him to make a success of it. Anyone who signs McNeil and Maupay is unfit for such a key role in a top flight club.

I actually couldn't care less about those roles either. If the DOF model is to work then the DOF is responsible for recruitment.

Who cares about internal structures when he has built a squad which will see us relegated. He must have his head in the sand if he thinks a head of recruitment is the priority this January.

Spot on

Sure. Sack him to. The whole DOF system is a nonsense and never worked anyway. We'll lose nothing other then more dead weight. Truthfully though, It won't change anything. We'll still be run by the worst owner, chairman and board in the league (arguably the whole sport).

The whole director of football model has been a complete disaster for Everton. Why are we still persisting with it? It could not have gone more wrong.
Last January we didn't have a director of football.

In that time we

- signed two full-backs the then manager wanted, one of them who had 16 senior games to his name for Rangers (£12m) and one of them who can't attack (£18m).
- sold a full-back who for his faults was a creative outlet for us who had been happy to commit less than a year earlier - more quality gone. Got £22m for him.
- signed a winger on loan the manager at the time did not want because the owner was doing his mate a favour as part of a deal the manager at the time did want to happen (selling Digne).
- sacked the manager who made those decisions on the full-backs and forced the previous DoF out.
- waited TWO WEEKS to hire a manager, which was finally done on Jan 30 and confirmed Jan 31. A circus-like, reality show esque managerial interview process occurred - with one of the candidates actually going LIVE on Sky on a phone call during the interview process.
- signed TWO attacking midfielders, when the urgent need was a defensive midfielder, neither of whom were scouted extensively but simply presented to the new manager as options.

That's why you need a DoF. So that, in theory, these things don't happen.

£20m and £15m were the figures rumoured for those players

I can't confirm exact figures, just going off what is reported

Even if it was undisclosed how does that equate to nothing?
who else in those price ranges would you have preferred? i might be missing notables but i don't recall there being anyone of quality in the same price range to other teams

Part of signing players is making mistakes. You're not going to hit every single one.
I do think it was abundantly clear to anyone with eyes though that Maupay wasn't a good folly for DCL (who was crocked and had been crocked for 4 weeks when we signed Maupay) and McNeil wasn't the winger that Everton needed.

We got one and he signed Maupay and McNeil.
