Should Thelwell be sacked

Do we believe his 120 point plan

He actually hasn't yet hired a head of recruitment. That's the issue. Because I agree, recruitment is part of his role but not the whole job. But in the summer, it was the priority job. I fear he didn't fully grasp that. Not based on my knowledge of it, but just because of the evidence in front of our eyes.

I'm not sure a man who pushed for Maupay and McNeil and signed off significant spend on them (along with Lampard) should definitely be trusted with hiring the manager, even though I agree that in the ideal DoF scenario, that's how it should work.

The whole director of football model has been a complete disaster for Everton. Why are we still persisting with it? It could not have gone more wrong.

They both should go. I can't believe people are defending a man who wasted the Richarlison money on such dross.

We need to clear out everyone from top to bottom because we are a complete joke.

Head of recruitment is about to be named, Senior manager of scouting and Head of emerging talent.

Behind the scenes the club has been in chaos for a while, he is putting a structure in place.

but we have nothing to spend, lad. yeah i would've loved some sneakily good scouting, but he can't be held to not finding a cut price gem when he's scouting with 2 hands tied behind his back

richarlison money was spent to fix multiple roles - some worked, some didn't. bad gamble, but imagine if we splashed that money on just one player and he flubbed? we'd be solidly 20th
we couldn’t score last year, we couldn’t create last year

That’s the major issue. Goals win ganes

The sad thing is, is that they have been.
I thought so at the beginning, when we started with Kev’s beloved 5 at the back and they were making the right noises about working together, but since then Lampard has gone back to playing 4 and also has failed to play to the strengths of a single signing.

I don’t think McNeil or Maupay are world beaters but we could have made reasonable use of them in a different system playing more direct football, but Frank stuck to a system that seemed to be ill-suited to pretty much every player.

Just a hunch, like, but I imagine once Frank has gone we’ll get the rumours of them two not having spoken since September, or something.

I don't trust him to make a success of it. Anyone who signs McNeil and Maupay is unfit for such a key role in a top flight club.

I actually couldn't care less about those roles either. If the DOF model is to work then the DOF is responsible for recruitment.

Who cares about internal structures when he has built a squad which will see us relegated. He must have his head in the sand if he thinks a head of recruitment is the priority this January.

Interesting point, didn't he work with Nuno?
I really don't know. I'm more talking about how we brought in Walsh and Koeman at about the same time so Walsh didn't pick him, then Brands was reached around for Carlo and Rafael folllwed by Frank being appointed before Thelwell. I think Silva was mostly Moshiri driven too? Wasn't it done before Brands took proper charge?

We've never actually done the DOF system right and believe it won't work.

Part of signing players is making mistakes. You're not going to hit every single one.

Sounds like he should be HR Director.

Leave the football to someone else?

Lampard changed from a back 3 because we weren't able to score goals and he wanted to try and get us up the pitch a bit. We also lost Godfrey, Holgate and Mina to long-term injuries, and then Patterson. You can't play a back 3 with Keane, Tark and Coady and Coleman and Myko at wing-backs. Imagine the grief Lampard would have got if he'd have played Iwobi at wing-back when he was our only midfielder playing well/creating?

We've been stuck between a rock and a hard place with injuries. Dom went down on August 1st and Everton didn't sign a striker until the bank holiday weekend. That's not on Lampard.

If you think Maupay can play direct football then I don't know where you've watched him, though. He fit how Brighton played, to a point. McNeil offers nothing mate. He's dreadful. But look, Lampard signed off on them both so it's not a case of blaming Thelwell for that. They're both at fault.
