The Ashes 2023

What remains of that occluded front to the north will make its way southwards. Looks to be fizzling out already mind. A point of optimism - A lot of the time with these types of systems even with rain painting overhead on the radar, if it’s light enough and the underlying air is deep enough, warm enough, and dry enough, then rain can evaporate before reaching the surface (Virga).

If we draw this test and win the last it could be similar to the womens where it feels like a win to us and a loss to them. Retaining the Ashes is a glorified draw.

I wonder if the men will adopt the women’s format of a points based system to still include 5 tests but add in a few T20s and an ODI or two?
Rubbish that the tests have to be shoehorned to finish before August so that the ECB can run their Hundred format

An absolute farce only brought about because the ECB didn’t copyright the T20 format and have invented a new format so they can copyright that. Insane marketing bollocks.

It seems the whole thing needs looking at, this series has highlighted a lot of issues.

Could they introduce a form of Duckworth-Lewis into Test cricket? Or would it just be too complicated/unfair?

Think the best solution would be something like, take the average test match length in overs over the past decade and state that if rain prevents that many overs being played, that a sixth day happens.

In hindsight, England should have gone harder with Stokes and Brook in bat at the end of the second day instead of playing the day out. Is only way they would have had a chance of winning this.

Really doesn’t take much to look at the forecast and realise you’re going to lose a lot of time so start earlier and finish later. Just an hour each side is enough.

Also, do something about the over rates.

We’re as bad as anyone for it but so much time gets lost when you can play.

Oh and it’s 2023. Get some roofs built on these grounds.

Yes we batted pretty aggressively but the forecast was terrible for Saturday and Sunday so we needed to play it like a 3 day game. Wouldn't necessarily have made much difference but I think we've hoped that the forecast was wrong, when anyone who knows Manchester knows if there's rain around it falls in Manchester
