The Everton Board Thread

January 2019;

  • In her maiden address to the club's general meeting, held at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall, Barrett-Baxendale told assembled shareholders the vision was to be "challenging at the top of the Premier League and competing at the highest level in European competitions. "Ultimately this means challenging for domestic titles and trophies, not only to win cups, but to win Premier League titles too," she added. "It means competing regularly in the Champions League and it means doing all of this in a world-class, world-renowned football stadium. I acknowledge our vision is challenging, and the barriers to entry are indeed daunting, but we are Everton and we must all be focused and driven to meet that challenge."

Approaching 3 years later, has this Everton board progressed this organisation?

Looking at the next 3 years, can we afford to repeat the previous 3 years or can this board buck the trend?

I'm not confident.
My last boss had slogans all over his wall, and talked grandly of what we were going to achieve whilst having absolutely no clue how or even attempting to have a plan. I often think he would fit in well at Everton. Kenwright would love him!

….isn’t it the case that many of the wealthy owners live abroad and largely defer day-to-day running of the clubs to others?

I’m more concerned with the processes at Everton. We employ a DoF yet he can’t bring players in without the authority of the Manager. The Manager (and apparently Moshiri) bring their own targets in. I’m not exactly sure what Brands does, he has the power of a seat on the board but is not empowered where transfers are concerned.

The process doesn’t support a consistent playing strategy & has resulted in significant waste.

Brands gets the blame but it’s the process we should be challenging.

Recruitment is one of, if not the most important, aspects of owning or running a business. Moshiri is never going to succeed until he starts getting recruitment correct. He doesn't have the football knowledge himself to do things by himself so he needs to recruit well. So far, the managers, sporting directors, execs etc that we have hired have not had any impact.

…agree, Tim. I think it’s too easy to blame Brands when the problem appears to be an uncoordinated mess.

We need to understand what’s currently in place and unravel it rather than lazely point the finger at one individual.

It’s the sort of question a fan would ask rather than a journalist but it would make it much easier to have a reasoned debate if we knew the definition of the ‘recruitment process’ at Everton.

tbh, I think that's what Benitez was strongly hinting at on Friday's (?) presser when he said " Everybody must up their game 10%"
In this zoom age, working remotely is no problem.
The problem is the 'onsite' people, it seems' too many are not up to the job.
I think Systemic is the word.

First you form habits - Then they form you.
Edit;Brands is not the main cause, he's just a symptom

We have no standards what so ever as a football club, and haven't for decades.
There is no desire at all to get in amongst the top teams.
Name me any other failing business that gets taken over by a billionaire and then doesn't hire people with a proven track record of success to change their fortunes. He might have spend a few quid, but not a single person Moshiri has brought to this football club has a track record of success on or off the field other than Rooney and Benitez neither of whom are anywhere close to their prime.

This club apart from Sir John Moores as been ran by conmen with no foresight

We missed the boat in the 70s, the success in the 80s came from Kendall. When he went and was getting talked about going to barca they should had an idea but instead just copied Liverpool. Even letting Big Joe go as manager. The park end. I can’t even be bothered going on. We’ve all seen it for years and the club as never had foresight

They messed up the Bobby Robson appointment in the 70s. He could of been a great manager for us.

Love him or loathe him, Mr Ancelotti says hello.
