"The fans wanted him sacked"

Didn't he get 3 of those, 2x 6th place trophies, 2x 5th place shields and the holy grail of pointless pots - a 4th place big ears?
He got 3 Manager of the Year awards too (AKA the pat on the head award for managers who win **** all).

It's nice to think he could turn it around and be as successful as Kendall was, The Europa League would be a great spring board for that.

Here are the results from 83/84 season from start up until just after the league cup game against Oxford away which Heath scored and supposedly saved his Bacon.

I have us being ahead on points to were we are now with 34 Points by the end of January from 24 games played and still in both cups. It looks to me that we were never as crap that season as we are now. Which tells me that Martinez is a lucky man by comparison for keeping his job.

We need Kone to go on a A.Heath style goalscoring run which will kickstart us on the road to success.
The point is that he was in the job two and a half years at that point and done nothing much, then it came together.

I find it strange that one of the names mentioned to replace RM is Michael Laudrup who had a great first season at Swansea and a very poor second season...sound familiar ?

And he wanted nothing to do with Everton when Moyes resigned as I recall.

Him, being Kendall.

A number of parallels to now.

Well worth a watch.

We can dream...

Hi mate.
Great find! I have asked @Dario Terracotta to think about asking the admin team to create a thread that is visible somewhere on the site to easily find all these classic gems?
Am I missing one somewhere already? Sorry if so. I think it would be awesome for the site and the members. ;)

As opposed to a manager taking over a good side that where 6th, adding something to the mix and getting them to 5th in his first season

Then, totally under preparing them going into his 2nd season, getting them into a rut that he was incapable of turning around, having them on the cusp of a relegation fight, whilst still waffling on about winning pots by parking the bus somehow being a problem for a side who'd not lifted one for 20 years.....

What you're seeing now, is what he's all about, dull, turgid football that results in few genuine chances and is brittle defensively. Last season was his blip, the result of all his moons aligning off the back of a solid base. The man has NEVER built a side capable of defending and the fact he doesn't practice set piece defending unit might give you clue as to why.

His stubbornness will be what kills him at Goodison, and he won't be manager of this club this time next year imo.

Oh I see, what we're seeing now is the real deal; last season was just 'adding something to the mix"?

Hopeless, absolutely hopeless.

If you were even mildly even handed it'd be an improvement on this embarrassment blizzard of BS.

A blip David look at his career lad. He's reverted to type this season

I must admit I've knee-jerked more than once recently and wanted Martinez out, more out of frustration than anything else. History tells you though that given time managers can build success. Look at Spurs over the years, constantly sacking at the slightest whiff of poor form. They all love Pochetino but what's the chances next season they suffer the same fate as us and struggle at some point...I wonder how they'll react.

He deserves time given how we performed last season, if we'd muddled about mid-table last year then had the season we are having now then there would be just reasons for him getting the chop. But we've seen the potential.

I'm by no means 'sold' on him as our league performance this season has been utterly awful. But I'm willing to let him try winning us round again. We're not going to get relegated so let's write off this league campaign and focus on next season - not forgetting Europe of course.

I'm actually really looking forward to this run in now, I may be being naive but I fancy us to beat Kiev, then Newcastle and pick up form all over.

His career shows how he revolutionised a backwater club in Wales and put the foundations in that they rest on today as an established PL club; went to Wigan and won them their first meaningful trophy ever; came to Everton and handed us our best top flight total since the PL began.

Only a fool would fail to respect that.
