Here's your man celebrating winning a corner

View attachment 283254
It's sad, but for me Coleman has become emblematic of our woes. Great lad, wonderful servant, absolute bargain but celebrates things that would be taken for granted in other eras, is rolled out for cringe worthy (and repetitive) rallying calls every time we're in the doldrums (which is often), has played on way, way too long. It's a shame because I feel he will always be associated with our decline rather than for the Moyes years when he really was a cracking player. If he'd retired two years ago, when he should have retired in my opinion, his legacy and association with the club's history would have been far rosier.

There’s a whole world of managers out there if you just look.. Brighton have pulled a 32 year old out of the Bundesliga 2 and are sitting joint 3rd and a point off 2nd.
Not saying it about hurzeler in particular because we obviously don’t know but there’s loads of managers who’ve had a short term impact but not kept it up. We need a manager who can make a long term difference and it’s not as easy as it seems. About 6 months ago glasner was the name on everyone’s lips and 6 months before that it was de zerbi but neither of them have kept it up. You’re right that there are managers out there but it’s really important we find the right one and don’t just stick a pin in a piece of paper saying ah he sounds decent.

Also just noticed someone’s mentioned Eddie Howe above and he’s another one. When he first went to Newcastle it was all ‘oh I was wrong about him just look at him go I wish we’d got him’ but now he’s reverted to type and has underperformed for 18 months.

Glazner is a very good manager and will do fine at Palace. He got shafted by player trading.
De Zerbi did well at BHA and earned a move to a big club. No one was poaching Dyche who finished in a similar position pre deduction.
Lopetegui will do every bit as well as David Moyes at West ham but play far more entertaining football.
In the PL with new owners and a new stadium there's only a handfull of managers who wouldnt take the job. Theres no reason to dine from the buffet of average PL managers.

I’m not saying we need a PL manager?! The point was just that loads of people are the next big thing until they aren’t. We need to find the actual next big thing, not another Martinez who comes in and gets showered with praise for a bit before it turns they’re actually a bit crap.

yup, agreed. We could start by ruling them out if they've gotten a team relegated like Dyche, Benitez, Allardyce, Martinez, Moyes.

This is true, but they manage to run a football club so that it's not permanently lurching from crisis appointment to crisis appointment.
