She just doesn't know much about the place and to be fair neither do I but the little I do know has me fascinated.

Tokyo is a must as I love big cities.
I was saying to possibly avoid showing her Tokyo since it can be intimidating if you're not from a major city. It's definitely a trip worth taking and as the esk has mentioned, they're amazing hosts. They top my list as far as Asian countries go and I'm half Chinese, haha.

Cool. I will get her there!

She really wants to do Thailand and that area but I'm not fussed about there.
I did Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam this past summer and it was great. I only went for the beaches in Thailand and then Angkor Wat. Vietnam is surprisingly very friendly to Americans and I had a blast there too. Take the boat to/from Ha Long Bay to Hong Kong.

The thing with Thailand is everyone seems to be doing it. So it's a little obvious. And that puts me off. But she wants to ride an elephant or something.

Angkor Wat sounds like something from Star Wars!!

You can have an elephant paint you a picture too. I do not follow the trends of where people go, I just go where I can communicate with the people. I feel like an ass if I don't speak any of the language, which is reason 9,425 why I haven't been to Italy.

And Angkor Wat is to the forest moon to Endor what Bangkok is to Mos Eisley.

Has anyone ever done any volunteer work abroad? I used to be a bricklayer and wouldn't mind the opportunity to go to a developing country and lend my skills. I've looked in to it before but the only things I could find cost like £2,000 for 2 weeks to a month, which I thought was a bit weird.

There's a website https://www.workaway.info where people abroad advertise for volunteers to help them with various things i.e. building work, in exchange for food and accommodation. It's really intrigued me, just wondered if anyone has done anything similar?
