Anyone managed to watch any local footy whilst travelling these exotic places??

Stories please.

Malaysian cup final in 1990, bought tickets that morning, Selangor vs. Singapore, kick off at 10.30pm because of the humidity, and at half time we were absolutely drenched in a tropical downpour to end all downpours. But within 20 mins I was bone dry again in the heat. I was wearing the EFC away shirt of the time, vertical silver/grey stripes, white and a bit of blue piping and received some very knowing nods of approval from the locals.

Anybody ever been to Albania ?
I spent 4 days there before and after England's first match in Montenegro in 2011. I really enjoyed Tirana, it was far better than I'd been expecting. Still rough round the edges, but the upmarket part of town was very good - cheap, and full of fit birds!

Food is well cheap; cheburekis were about 15p, and well nice. Sadly, the main 'square' (its actually more like a massive roundabout) in front of a couple of big national buildings was being dug up when I was there, which ruined the main photo shots in the centre.

I also visited Durres (historic ruins close to the 'beach') and Shkodra, and saw the gypsy derby between Albania and Romania in the main national stadium.

Really like Barcelona.

Could you tell me what you liked about Barcelona? I've been twice now, 15 years apart, and I have to say I've been thoroughly underwhelmed both times. I must caveat that by saying I was a 20yo student the first time and a father of 3 the second time, and my impression of the place is that it's purely an adults city, one for art galleries and boozing. Maybe I'll like it if I ever go back with the missus for the weekend, but frankly, I was struggling to find much to like about the place. Smattering of decent architecture in the old parts, but otherwise, a hot, crowded place, rather dirty, La Rambla was a hell-hole of tat shops (much like the Tottenham Ct Rd end of Oxford St), and I couldn't wait to leave the place.

Conversely, Girona was a wonderful place which I enjoyed immensely.

I've been a few times, twice last year - one for a Stag and the other with my gf, and I love it, but this is probably true. Plenty of places to go if you wanna get on the beers, but also loads to do on a more cultural trip - the Gaudi stuff, Mont Juic, Tibidabo, loads of old churches etc. We spent 5/6 days there and kept pretty busy seeing stuff and there was still loads we didn't get round to :)

Didn't help that, due to being situated on the Costa Brava, I had to drive into the city. That set the day off on a bad note. A very bad note. What a truly appaling place to drive.

Don't know if it was anything specific. As I said I'm not partularly well travelled and the impression could possibly pale if I were. I do really like cities in general and big, wide avenued cities have a special feel about them for me.
Had a good time both times too which is usually good for selling a place.

I have to agree I found Madrid much better than Barcelona. I also thought Porto was a great city.

I'd recommend Bratislava for a lads weekend too.

Just about a year ago we spent a week in a rented cottage in the Staffordshire moors, a mile or two from the Peak District, as nice as anywhere to be fair.

I too have been lucky enough to travel to places for work that i maybe might not have travelled to on holiday. I've been to Angola, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, India, China, Phillipines and the States and Norway all for work. Loved China (the people, food and scenery) Not keen on Azerbaijan or Angola (Maybe the fact at both airports i was pretty much robbed by the airport workers)

Off To NYC and Orlando in December and then next August hoping to take a cruise from Vancouver through Alaska.
