2023/24 Vitalii Mykolenko

Is crap going forward but I can't fault him defensively for the most part, even that 2nd Luton goal, it wasn't his fault he was left with 2 men.

The problem is when we do go forward, though. Luton did their best to force us over to Mykolenko's side because hey knew the attack was more likely to break down.

Would like to see us address this and get a more attack minded LB in Jan... or if we're chasing the game, put McNeil at left-back.

Mate he nearly got caught out twice against Bournemouth with exactly the same type of set piece that Luton scored.

He needs to be telling McNeil or whoever should be tracking the spare man

The lad’s kept his head down and has been steadily developing despite an oppressive hostile threat at home, the Park End simply don’t like him and want him to fail so they can lean back to the fella they bore behind them and say “see I told you he was crap lad’.

You horrible, old, flaccid manbabies still talking and dressing the same as in your twenties. Everyone thinks you‘re a tit, lads.

Is that his job then? Would have thought that was down to whoever decides the cack zonal positioning for set pieces and does the defensive drills.

It’s almost like when he’s fully fit, playing in his proper position, has a run of games, and isn’t expected to carry the entire attacking output of the team from left back, that he plays well. Mad isn’t it.

It'll take more than a few solid games to convince me this team wouldn't be transformed by a couple of quality full backs. Even yesterday we could've exploited Bournemouth even more.

Both left back and right back are weak points in our team and it'll show over the course of the season.

When people say quality full backs though I presume they’re talking about players who can both attack and defend to an extremely good level.

How many of them are there available and are they available at Everton’s budget? We were absolutely spoilt by Baines and Coleman in their primes who were not just Everton greats but two of the best in the league and in Europe. We’re not going to just pick up two like that for a pittance again any time soon. We bought Lucas Digne for 16 mill with a sky high pedigree ex Barcelona and Roma, France international with CL experience and he couldn’t get near the level Baines was at in his prime and massively struggled defensively.

Liverpool haven’t got a right back that can defend, United haven’t got a right back who can attack, City sold their left backs because they couldn’t defend, they now play centre backs there and often at right back too. Arsenal have Zinchenko and Ben White, neither of them primarily a fullback.

Yes we’d all like to find two perfect full backs but if the top 6 worth their unlimited budgets can’t find them why would Everton get them? Look at Patterson, a player with undoubted promise going forward, but can the fans stand a single defensive lapse from him? No.

In my view a full backs job is to defend first and foremost, and when he’s fit and in form Mykolenko can do that. There’s other ways for a team to attack than continuously trying to spring their left back free to cross it in.

You need fullbacks to contribute something offensively, and I don't think he has it in his game.

Since he joined, I can't recall a single decent cross, never mind an assist.

It feels like the best we can hope for is he doesn't make a mistake.

^ same as last season.

When he starts, you hope he doesn't make a mistake and if that's true, you get a 6/10 from him. Like yesterday.

But the sooner we have a left back who can offer anything going forward, the better.

He whipped the ball in that resulted in Harrison's goal tbf to him

I actually thought he was decent yesterday
