Watches

They are just fancy fakes. Unless your friend is living a lifestyle were it would not be unusual to wear a 60k plus watch, then everyone will know it's a fake. Fair play if he's open about it and not misleading anyone, otherwise it's a bit sad.

That's not even getting into the fact that it's a criminal offence to deal in knock offs and all that entails.

I suspect that these high price knock off Rolexes which are 1:1 and even have clones of the original movements are much harder to distinguish from the original, but at that point, why not buy a decent non-knock off watch and not worry about having a brand of watch which is more than you can, or are wiling, to pay for?
I'm sure a few people have been rolled over for a fake Rolex or PP. If you're going somewhere that you think might be dodgy wear a GShock.

He is open to it being fake. He lives in London and there have been a spat of robberies for watches. He does have a nice collection and now wears a fake Rolex and a fake PP and keeps his real ones in the safe!

I have a couple of Rolexs that I bought many years ago. I am with you would rather but for example a CW for around that price and enjoy it.

He's not a watch person, he's a "look at me" person because if you're going to fork out for a Rolex and then cheesed*ck out with a fake one when you could get a moderately priced but very nice Sinn, NOMOS, Grand Seiko, Zelos or Traska etc then you're all about your projection, not the watch itself. Koppite behaviour.

I saw a news article ages a go about a mega rich bloke that wears fake watches instead of his real ones to keep them safe as well!! I forget who it was now..
I know a guy who a few years ago worked for quite a high end watch dealer and managed to pick up 3 rolex models, a yauct master an explorer and another i cant remember, he doesnt ever wear them incase of accidently damaging them, he kind of treats them like an ISA or other such investment to sell on in the future. I can sort of get that but it seems such a shame never to use them.

As I have a significant birthday approaching I had the idea to buy myself something, perhaps a watch, and then I saw the Watches thread on GOT, which I hadn’t noticed before. I thought it might be a good place to get some hints and tips before I opened my wallet. Must say I have become hooked on the thread, now having read the first 110 pages, very impressed with the knowledge that is shared, and the obvious passion for the subject that is evident. As a result I am just in the process of buying a watch based on the 3 factors that are important to me – moderate size (I have fairly thin wrists), blue dial, and Arabic numerals. I have now made my first watch purchase, that meets all 3 criteria – a Seiko 5 sports watch. It is a cheaper buy than I first intended but the main thing I have learned from the thread is to buy what appeals to you, within your budget. The problem I may have is whether I have caught the bug - I will find out after the watch arrives and if I then want another one! You may have infected yet another innocent Blue!

Worse things to be addicted to mate.

I have stopped at 6 timepieces now.

Most I have spent on a watch was a £250 Junkers.

Currently love wearing this Casio G shock. GBD 200.
