Your stance on Martinez AND what would change it?

My mate, Chelsea fan rang me tonight.

After we got the life stuff out of the way, first thing he said was " got to sack Martinez you lot, look at your side, it's miles better than he has them doing. Lukaku 50m player, Stones 50m and one of the hottest young defenders in Europe, Barkley must be. 40m player, Coleman a 20m full back and Baines on the other side who is getting a little older but still one of the best, McCarthy who would get you 20m+.....on paper! one of the most financially valued teams in the league and he has you sat in 12th and won 5 all season"

Have to say, he has a point!

He said all that over the phone?

Wow.

I want him gone. It's been almost two years at this point our form had changed DRASTICALLY for the worse. We don't press, we stand off the opposition when they have the ball, we don't defend set pieces, corners or just about anything well, our players all look knackered after 60-70 minutes, there's barely ANY movement off the ball and we are even crap at throw ins.

What would it take to change my mind? Let's start with fitness and some SEMBLANCE of a defensive strategy. The fact I have to say I'd like to see that just gives me a migraine.

What makes your view right qnd anothers wrong

We are not discussing my views.

My views are clearly stated on the previous page.

With Bobby at the moment......but likely to give the thumbs down if Howard has the gloves on Wednesday.

I am commenting on the excellent, rational, cogent post of @BlueToff, delivered in a way more likely to convince waverers to stay on the side of the Robertonians and @davek than any post putting the alternative point is to draw waverers to the other side.

He is a lad whom has impressed me this week with his defence of John Stones.

I don't agree with him on that matter, but I admire the cogency of his posts.

:)

You see, sensible, cogent posts like this are the perfect counter to the emotionally charged posts demanding we sack our manager.

And this from a lad of twenty years of age.

Well said, Toff ;)

Cheers mate. I'll admit, I've been prone to some rather charged posts myself on here lately. End of the day, we all just want what's best for the club.

My opinion is like I've said in that post. Not everybody shares that view, which is perfectly reasonable. Boring when everyone agrees anyway!

1. Stones, disrupted by Chelsea fans, players manager and London-centric media in the summer - (some) EFC fans abusing him at games after he handed in a transfer request, most right behind him. Gets back to his best with the full support of the Everton fans, then has a shaky spell post Xmas. Now some fans want him dropped and demanding he be sold because he is 'diss-interested', while media that hyped him up jump on the wagon of 'he must move to further his career, as Martinez is not the manager for him' etc etc.
2. Coleman, injured for chunks of the season. Accused by a lot of Everton fans as been not up to his standard this campaign. Some calling to consider selling him, some calling for him to be dropped
3. Baines, injured until the beginning of December
4. Out since Bournemouth with an injury, we've won one league game since

Agree on Lukaku and Barkley, who have both done well for us and up front we have not had issues.

So, your mate there has named three defenders all effected by things at some point in the season that Martinez has been unable to control... what has the main issue been for us? The defence.

He has also named McCarthy, a player who many would say is our best defensive midfielder. A player who is key to us winning games. He has also been injured. Again, something Martinez could not control.

While there are obviously aspects he can control (Howard, refusal to change tactics during games at times etc), I believe your mate there has named players that yes, are very high value and yes, are good players, but key players to our side that have all been effected adversely by situations out of Martinez' control...

The thing is , if he was to do that he would be admitting he was wrong all along, there is absolutely no way he will do that, if he did that would be part of his resignation speech. There is no way he will change his approach, which is fair enough cos thats what he believes in.

Therein lies the rub, his stubbornness has developed into arrogance.

He began his tenure with humility, genuinely honoured at the appointment at such a great club, that has slowly evaporated and all that's left is a man who has backed himself into a corner.

All for him having his philosophy on football, fair enough, but his character has changed in defending it. Not a good sign.

Do you think that RMs wife ever says to him "Bob, why do think that 40,000 Evertonians are wrong about Tim? and why are 40,000 RSs
laughing up their sleeves? Why did the greatest football manager of all time get rid of him? errr could you be wrong dear"?thinking about it
I suppose though, if I had just put £25M into our joint account, my missus wouldn't give a [Poor language removed] either!

I don't think you'll see many football managers admitting they'd got things wrong mate.

Fergie never did, Mourinho never does, Wenger, Pep, Ancelotti... I could go on...

You don't make it to the top with self doubt, especially not by broadcasting your mistakes to the world, as much as fans may wish for them to do so at times...

Love the Robertonians phrase K ;)

I want him to get a defensive coach and to listen to him, if he does that and we start closing down in our half he will finally get my full support.
I don't care that we have both full backs in the opponent pen area late in the game, some people went mental at the amzingness of it, if we don't win its meaningless. We could have every player in the opponent area, but if we concede more than we score then we have done badly.
Not bothered that he talks ****, tells porkies, goes all out for wins he doesn't get and so on if we win.

Really?

When was this information revealed?
Probably not the best choice of words by me but when he was unveiled it is well known that he 'promised' Champions League football.

I genuinely wanted him to suceed but it's so frustrating seeing the same mistakes over and over. I don't see us learning from our mistakes and unless he is at least prepared to make adjustments that makes us more defensively sound and works on alternative formations then it is my opinion that we will continue to concede clearly avoidable goals and utimately drop more points.
