New Everton Owners: The Friedkin Group

As a club we haven't ever seemed to do 'good' strikers, they are either crap/average or bloody brilliant. Dean, Lawton, both Youngs, Latchford, Sharp, Gray, Liniker, Lukaku, Vernon, Royle.

...but not so much a striker. In Bobby brown shoes first season it was basically the team Moyes left but an addition of a very good striker in Lukaku. But I agree I think moyes would make a very good DOF if he could be pursued to move upstairs and I don’t think he’d be a pushover and sign...

Often there is a reason these guys are available for loan, they are not good enough for their parent club. with Lukaku and Deulofeu, were very young and at top tier clubs

Probably the most recent two that were genuinely decent were Gomes and Zouma.

You'd probably go far back as Lukaku or Deulofeu

    The return of David Moyes

I remember when he beat us 3-1 with arnautovic scoring as his striker He can manage any group of footballers and will make it work somehow https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44020200.amp

...it was Bent or a lump like Beattie. Saha, was massively overrated and only had one good season. I've heard people say: "if only he'd have had Lukaku." He would have had him running the line all the time (which would work occasionally, as Martinez did against Arsenal) but he lacked the...

    The return of David Moyes

That doesn't stand up when he was losing cup quarter finals to Reading and Wigan at home. You can say he couldn't compete in the league financially, but when opportunity knocked in the cup, he found a way to lose.

    The return of David Moyes

I appreciate that but a lot of that was down to financial restrictions. If Moyes had been able to spend on a player of a similar standard to Lukaku, we'd have finshed in the top 4 a few more times in my opinion and probably won a trophy. But he never had that luxury and he was always at a...

There's a lot of revisionism with Moyes but we were literally a Lukaku or other class attacker away from breaking the top 4 when they all used to monopolise the back end of the champions league. We did extremely well for a long time playing Cahill and Fellaini upfront. Apart from the top 4 we...

He is a counter attacking striker similar to Lukaku (albeit not nearly as refined). He is athletic, makes decent runs and can be a nuisance in a 1 on 1 getting in behind. There are many games where he would be the better option and some where you want more of a ball player.

    The return of David Moyes

Yeah, but Moyes signed Stones when he was just coming through - wasn't he his last signing? And he handled Barley's development well by allowing him to go out and get experience rather than just keeping him on the bench.

    The return of David Moyes

Was based on Moyes’ defence though. As soon as Martinez started putting his garbage defenders/keeper in, it fell apart.

...in Stones who had never played under Moyes, signed Barry on loan, signed McCarthy and had Delafeou until injury - all key players . Throw in Lukaku and there were huge changes to the team under Martinez. That first season was our best since the 80s. It obviously crashed and burnt within time...

    The return of David Moyes

...City. However, too many draws and a lack of goals saw Everton's push for a European place fade and they finished sixth in the league. It did mean that the club finished above rivals Liverpool for the second successive season for the first time since 1937." Signing Lukaku was the key difference.

That's fair enough and I will criticise him too if need be like any of our previous managers. Also I was fuming with him the way he tried to low ball bids for our players, but we did in the end get £27m for Fellaini which allowed us to buy Lukaku for £28m, win, win.

I see him scoring those types of goals, but tbf he's been in and out of the Brighton team and his stats for last season are like a goal every 2.5 matches, minutes-wise - but only 6 goals in total in 27 appearances. This season again patchy record with 1 goal scored in 12 apps but only 220...

He’s not really been in the team for them this season but for the last 2 seasons he seemed to score at a fairly decent lick. 6 goals in 27 last season and 6 goals in 19 the year before. On a side note, I hate the idea of us having a ‘poacher’ striker - we need movement and pace. That’s the...

Someone and I know I'm going back the Yak, Lukaku there are probably better examples, just someone who scores regularly a poacher. As good as this lad looks he doesn't strike me as a poacher. Maybe I've missed it mate, what is his scoring rate, if it's a 1 in 3 fair enough.
