Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

They're value is 500m dollars, so about 350m pounds.

I have no idea why they have invested in Newcastle. Let's see how committed they are. Staveley is a compulsive liar.

And Newcastle have won nothing for 50 odd years. So I'd say Malaga were bigger myself.
There's loads of reasons.

The sportwashing aspect. The fact Saudi Arabia is trying to 'diversify' its economy away from oil. Sport is massive for that (look at the money they've thrown at boxing to get big bouts there).

Newcastle as a city is built around the football club. Its a city/area that has been underfunded in many respects by successive governments. Also happens to be a city with two massive Unis. Loads of scope for property development (City's owners have been big on this in east Manchester).

Then you've got the massive boom in renewables which is happening and will continue to happen. Newcastle great access for that from a port perspective.

In terms of why Newcastle the club, it's pretty simple. One-club city, traditionally 'big' club (well supported, if not historically massively successful). There were no other real options like that in the PL. Leeds' owners won't sell anytime soon, West Ham are in the saturated London market.

If you're basing being 'big' on winning things recently, then Birmingham, Swansea, Brentford, Wigan etc etc are all very much bigger than Everton.

Conte would be a disaster for them right now.

Conte apparently has said no. There's no way he'd knock back top jobs only to go "yeah, I'll join a club in a relegation scrap then spend loads and rebuild" at Saudi United

If you were Potter, why would you leave? Brighton are a much better team currently.

As for Greame Jones, what a 1st appointment that is. Steve Bruce's assistant as the 1st manager, these guys mean business. :D

If Conte has said no, there is not a chance they have as much backing as people seem to be suggesting.

Id have said Conte would be the best option, he'd keep them up and attract players.

With him, they could spend £300mil next summer and jumpstart into the top 8 places in the league.

I dont think Potter would even keep them up, the players they have wouldnt be able to adapt to his tactics and what they need is someone to attract players and keep them up.

If hes turned them down then i would say Dyche would be a good choice but the Geordies wouldnt be happy with his football so its a non starter.

Who would you think is best?

There is talk that Mike Ashley is considering buying Derby County.Apparently the Newcastle experience hasn't put him off football and I suppose as a shrewd businessman over 150 million profit on Newcastle is probably worth the abuse he has recieved.
Cost of Derby 60/70 million to clear the debts and a quid for club.

Apparently 30miles from their head office or something as well?

Newcastle are still Newcastle. Tarkowski, who only has 5 months left on his deal come Jan, would be a smart signing.

It's smarter than us going and paying £25m like we did for Keane, for example.

Hopefully they come in for some of our players including Keane.

I expect there to be alot of new developments with condos, office buildings etc popping up in Newcastle over the next 10 years....they will want to 'takeover' the city.

What renewables do you mean?

Just wait until Fenway SG sell the RS to the PRC - its coming boys and girls.
After all - don't they think they are the worlds most socialist club.

Theyre the only ones on the planet worse than the Saudis.

Id be gutted if we sold out to Chinese.

There's 15-20 years of offshore wind projects currently in development (and will continue to be in development) in the North Sea. Newcastle is a deepwater port, meaning the huge ships needed can come into it.

Then there's also four massive interconnector projects from Germany, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.

There's also, in development, an island for these huge cable interfaces out in the north sea.

I know this because I've worked in that industry for the last seven years (while also freelancing).

There's huge, huge scope.

Agreed. He'll be looking to step to a euro club not a smaller yet wealthier project. Newcastle will struggle like we did to attract big names until they're in the euro pantomime.

Moved this here Chris:

Interestingly were now 5.5 years into Moshiri's reign and i think it will take us another 2.5 years if we do things right to be a 'top 6' team.

Newcastle need to:

Upgrade their training ground
Upgrade their youth academy
Update their stadium
Attract top level manager(s)
Attract top level players

All while being compliant with profit and sustainability rules in the league.

I wonder if in 4.5 years time when Moshiri has been here for 10 years if were not going to be delighted and competing in the top 4, champions league and with a new stadium.

While Newcastle are undergoing a lengthly process to rebuild their club.

Makes sense, I think the Reuben' and the Saudi's will want to invest in the cities infrastructure on a large scale.

If they can build a top team in Newcastle and focus on development projects in the city then they will pretty much run the place in terms of public opinion.

Pretty much like the Saudi's indirectly 'owning' an English City.

Yes, Staveley mentioned that Island - when she said they'd be challenging within 5 years.

I genuinely believe if BMD and Liverpool Waters was already fully complete we would have been taken over by some SWF or Uber Wealthy Despot.

Just got to hope Usmanov is behind the scenes and starts going in balls deep if FFP gets relaxed as he isnt far off Shiekh Mansour's wealth.

Don’t really think we can slate anyone, in the premier league era we are arguably the most pointless team of that age. Won nothing, don’t compete for anything, appeared in 1 CL qualifier and one FA cup final in 26 years. We are a big club historically but right now we are nothing.
Yet funnily enough there's still a good 80 odd other English league clubs who would swap all that we haven't for all what they have in a heartbeat

Usmanov is 100% in this for Liverpool Waters. Not that he's going to have a monopoly or anything but it's a massive development.
