On the defensive coaching.

Do you really think Jags (highly experienced international defender and captain) or Mori (international defender) really need coaching for the 2 goals today? Perhaps Coleman on his poor positioning.

But for me 9/10 times those 2 goals should have and would have been stopped.

I wouldn't say they need coaching in terms of skills to defend the ball, per say, but it surely has something to do with the way the team defends as a unit.

Drop Stones - ok we've done that, but as soon as we've come up against a semi decent side we've let in three
Drop Howard - as above.
Change formation - did that today, looked like it would work... then backfired spectacularly
Drop the useless Cleverly - again, worked for a while and still looks the best bet for better football

What more can he change?

The specific point elong was disagreeing with was that we should either sack roberto now or sack him in the summer and it will make no difference which because our season is over anyway, regardless of how we play from now until the summer.

We are in a quarter final of a cup.

If we win every game from now until the summer, we will 100% be in europe and with a trophy, it would be our best season in 20 years, and it would be very different than if we lost every game from now until august.

Say for instance mourinho wrote to the club and says he'll be happy to take over for the chelsea game if they act now? Would you reply, 'no don't bother the season's over, nothing you can do now so just come in the summer jose lad'?

People just love to batter Martinez, if I thought it was his fault today I'd say so, it wasn't for all the reasons you just mentioned.

I agree with what was being said here but if you accept the plaudits for getting us into a position where we should have been 3-0 up then you have to accepts the criticism for managing a loss from being two nil up.
He is the manager, I accept he cannot be held accountable for Mirellas getting himself sent off or Lukaku missing a penalty. Unfortunately he is responsible for the rest.

I don't think we'll go 100%. Or go 0% which was my other mentioned possible result.

We're not good enough right now and we need to get better.

All I'm saying is it's not too late if we do manage to suddenly remember how to defend.

But that's the thing Zat, it's not the first time. Defending lets us down every game. If it was happening once or twice every, let's say, 10 games - sure, luck would have it it's not a certain player's day, or a forward put on a good display.

If it happens week in, week out, then who is it to blame? Did Jagielka forget how to head a ball after Moyes left? Or was it just that the team was prepared to defensively deal with those situations?

Its been fine last few games with 11 men.

it was also fine today with great tactics. I honestly cannot see how the manager can be blamed for individuals not doing their jobs today after the last few games....

If that was Shawcross today he would have stopped 2 goals. If Baines or Barkley took the pen wed likely have been 3-0 up with 10 men.

At 3-0 up with 10 men if we froze time then the same people on here would be awol....because we were winning....or complaininf about some nonsense.

As it is theyre on here slating the manager who got kost right today but was let down by his players making individual errors.

I think the fan's have a right to be upset and on the fence over Martinez, he isn't doing himself any favours. Nice bloke but thats about it. Hope he proves me wrong with an FA cup..
