Ronald Koeman discussion

Koeman said when he was there that none of their academy were ready. A numb nuts assessment immediately proven wrong when his successor went in there.

Since he left, Sims, McQueen and Olomola have all gained a first team footing.

Here's a good article on what Puel was asked to do to unravel the harm done to the Southampton youth policy when he was there. http://www.fourfourtwo.com/sg/news/puel-i-replaced-koeman-give-southampton-youngsters-a-chance

It's not even up as serious debate that Koeman tried to have their home grown system placed in mothballs when he was there because he wanted to spend cash. Only now are they recovering from his purblind attitude.

That's the best article you can honestly come out with to try prove a really strained point, wow...

Btw Dave your not answering the bit about how wrong you where about the harm koeman would do to the academy and young players chances?

I would like to also say that poster of Martinez did untold damage to him. I remember before the arsenal game we are heading for a fall here and I think he lost the respect of some the senior. For Christ sake he'd only been at the club a season and not won anything. I liked what he was trying to do but he was too stubborn and too loyal to players wouldn't change his systemYou've got to keep the opposition on their toes. I'm glad koeman had a bad spell because he has shown his character rode the storm. He's been about and he's straight talking and the players respect him. Watch this space.

Sorry Grouch, I will adhere to this rule but have to say I don't agree with it.

What's wrong with talking about previous managers in the thread about the current one? I'm struggling to get it. Feels only natural to compare.

No issue with Dave-k I'm a great fan but I just don't get it.

Would it not be off topic to talk about Everton in a thread about the current Belgium manager also?

No one is saying don't discuss previous managers in relation to Koeman. Hence why I said;

Obviously some comparison and contrasting between Koeman and Martinez is understandable, the issue is those who go off on one, or simply want to goad a particular member, or both

And as Roydo says also;

Its more the baiting of certain posters Ijjy, which has blown the thread way off course at times. (72 points, 5th is 17th, that sort of stuff)

Like you say, a natter about how the current back 3 works, versus how Martinez tried it has merits, but lads coming on and lobbing grenades designed to get a rise aint on.

TBF to Davek, he now patiently suggests those posts should be directed to a Martinez thread.

Koeman has made mistakes this season, no one can deny that. However it is learning from your mistakes and adapting is what's important. The window of last summer was poor to put it mildly. In addition there is no doubt, Koeman was too loyal to some players who were underperforming in the team. Hence our bad run in the latter stages of autumn.
However there really does seem a change of atmosphere at the club since the arsenal game. Koeman really looks to be getting to grips with the job and his whole demeanour seems more positive, which in turn is having a more positive impact on the side. Another couple of quality additions in the rest of the window and we can make a run at the top 6 as United now have to contend with the dreaded EL.

Got to agree that the squad needs/needed an overhaul. Hence why cleverly has been loaned out to a lower premier league club, Kone is nowhere to be seen, McGeady has dropped a division and Niasse is wasting someone else's bench space now. On top of that you've got del on his way out.

2 of those were regulars last season with the others all being used from the bench a fair amount. That's a large chunk of a match day squad that needs replacing

It's beautiful to see virtually every player we knew wasn't good enough for us being shifted out, not quite perfect mind as there's no permanent takers for any as yet. We're likely to pay for the previous regimes failings for some time yet re wages.

We've got a brand new central midfield, be it Gana, Schneiderlin or Davies in there after years of Barry/McCarthy, great engine room which needs a couple of solid players behind and a creative player or two further on. Ron is building a very solid team, great signings thus far in his reign.

Southampton with the country's best youth system didn't have decent youth players when Koeman was there...strange that isn't it....then when we played them this year one of those he ignored at Southampton was MOTM against us....and he said he didn't know the lad's name.

Oh dear.

That they have the best youth system doesnt mean that there were good players coming through at that time. Is it really that hard to understand??

That guy puts in 1 cross gets mom award and after that we've never heard of him again thats how good he was!!! Even their supporters are saying that those young players are not good enough but that probably doesnt fit your own pathetic fantasy.

Have you ever heard of developing?????? Players who were not good enough last year can be good enough this year although Saints supporters don't even rate them but thats off course not what you wanna hear. So again, please come with something better next time.

Ha ha. You asked for

A) direct quotes from Koeman about how he distrusts playing younger players - provided
B) evidence of Southampton youngsters now getting a chance again post Koeman - provided

Not one acknowledgement from you...and you then have the gall to ask me to clarify more obvious points for you.

Unreal.

Someone stick a fork in this lad, he's done.

Dirty lad, Southampton were synonymous with bringing through young players and turning them into stars. If the production line is now spluttering (which it does my appear to be anyway) then factor Koemans time there as a reason the process isn't what it was.

Lol
3 players have started a grand total of 5 games. Really tearing it up with the youth setup at the saints

There's no question Koeman has distrusted youth in the past - he's said it himself.

The fact we're playing Holgate, Davies, Barkley, Calvert-Lewin etc. at the moment is a result of a giant middle finger to Southampton when we played them, and to his surprise it actually worked, so he's carried on doing it. That's honestly how I read the situation - his selection for that game was just too coincidental.

Who cares though, it worked. A lucky manager is as good as a good manager.
