'David Moyes has branded allegations that his dithering over his contract to be causing a negative distraction to his side as ´rubbish´
Moyes is out of contract at the end of the season but has refused to make a decision on his future until the end of the season.
Moyes: "I think that's rubbish; We´re still realistically playing for a place in the Champions League."
"Most seasons we've tended to finish sixth, seventh or eighth and if you ask the people who know football they would say that´s about as good as Everton can do,"
"We´ve probably been playing at our maximum for a long time at Everton - foot hard to the pedal - and I'm hoping we can go a wee bit further this season and maybe do better in the FA Cup." '

Pretty sure he doesn't say there that HE thinks that it's the best we can do...

So he's saying he doesn't know football then?

good point actually, he says "people who know about football"

are we going to get a new thread everyday Moyes opens his mouth.

The board budgeted for six, seventh and eighth so were is the story? The manager and players want better but the board will not approve the spend required to make 4th a viable option.

Yes but if we get rid of Moyes and get somebody else we MIGHT play more attacking football and MIGHT win a trophy.

We also MIGHT end up dropping to mid table or worse like we did before Moyes came, but lets not dwell on that. MOYES OUT.

Lets not take any risks then ever and float around in a mid table abyss

It almost certainly isn't one or the other.

It is.

"Most seasons we've tended to finish sixth, seventh or eighth and if you ask the people who know football they would say that´s about as good as Everton can do."

So, if you ask Moyes "What is about as good as Everton can do in the Premier League?" then it's one of two answers.

If he knows football, then he answers "sixth, seventh or eighth".

If he doesn't know football, he answers something else.

There's no inbetween, nothing to spin.

Malleus Maleficarum is what they are reading in the GOT towers. I,ve got my pitchfork got yours....

Errr... maybe read it again mate.

It's either one or the other.

Err...no it's not. He's referring to the general consenus of footballing opinion. Doesn't mean that's his own opinion. Nor does it imply that anyone who doesn't think that statement is true knows nothing about football.

Doesn't matter what manager comes in, the financial situation is the thing holding us back. Time people just accepted it and focussed on doing something about that, rather than half hearted 'Moyes out' calls when we go on a bad run.

No he isn't, he said "if you ask the people who know football". If he had a contrary opinion, he would then be tacitly stating that he doesn't know football.

What you are doing is spinning, his actual words are completely different. You go on his actual words.

I assume "We´ve probably been playing at our maximum for a long time at Everton" in the very next sentence is everyone else's opinion and he's quoting it as a passive observer too?
